Wish I had read this yesterday...about the parcel post! Posted a book I had sold on Amazon for £8.50 and was charged £7.80 for second class post!! Am annoyed with the post office for not advising me to use parcel post.
  • Hey

I sold my 1st book on Amazon last week. It was a referance book for social work diploma/degree. After fees and postage I cleared £7.75 :j very pleased.

Thanks apprentice tycoon, I would have never of done this if it hadnt of been for this thread :T

Have another book on there called "Sea of Tranquility"-all other second hand ones were over £15.00-apparently a very sought after book and over £20 new  So went in and under cut by a couple of quid :D Its my DD's book so she'll get the funds-minus fees and postage of course....lol..should still clear a tenner and we paid 50p from a bootsale 2 years ago ;)

The post office should have been more helpful, when i tried to do something similar I was advised to use parcel post
I always say to them now "send by whatever is the cheapest"

  • One thing has put me off selling on Amazon, and it was a feedback issue.

I had a decent feedback rating until one woman rated me as "awful" because her book had never arrived. She did not contact me to say the book hadn't come. I had a proof of postage certificate so I could easily have issued a refund. I was just hopping mad that she didn't try to get in touch with me first to resolve the issue. Unlike e-bay there is no way of you adding your comments to their feedback so you can only see one side of the story.

A few weeks later I had cause to try and contact a seller about a book I had ordered that hadn't arrived, and it was like rocket science trying to work it out! I therefore wonder whether my buyer wasn't particularly internet-savvy and hadn't worked out how to contact me.

Also the feedback was left quite a while after the book was dispatched so I wonder whether she did receive an e-mail from Amazon, clicked on a link and left me bad feedback as it was easy to do so?

I just don't know, but it has put me off listing anymore as I worry now that the last feedback a potential buyer will see, will be very bad.

  • I'm not surprised that you are cheesed off with the feedback.
Can you re-join with another email address and start fresh?

The way to avoid the buyer getting upset if the Royal Mail messes up is to email them when you post the book and ask them to contact you if they have any difficulties. This way they have an easy way back to you without going through the Amazon maze and hopefully you can diffuse any potential botheration

    hello A-T

I have been reading this thread with interest for several weeks now. Before, I never knew that amazon sold second hand books (where had I been hiding??? )

I also didn't realise I could sell mine via amazon, or tht there was a profit to be made selling book at £0.01.

Last night I took the plunge and listed 22 books. This wasn't the difficult task I though it would be - they are books I have no wish to keep and the process of registration and listing was easy.

Anyway, three hours later and I had sold my first two books!!! I have taken the postage advice on here to heart and want to thank everyone for their tips and contributions.

Many Thanks and here is to selling the other 20!

I think you were chanrged parcel rate. second calss stops aroung the 750 gram at £2.12...... £7.20 is parcel between 2 and 4 kilos. I use the royal mail site to keep me right!!!

you are right, the royal mail website is really very useful - I've weighed everything to help me work out what my lowest price can be, without making a loss when the postage has been deducted.

It could be beneficial to others on here if we listed books we found to be a quick seller and a good profit?

A kind of shopping list when we're out and about in charity and book shops.

I have been very interested in how many of you sell books on amazon.I would like to try this but it says you have to have a credit card when you register.due to past financial difficulties i no longer have one so does this mean I wont be able to sell on amazon?
