  • That was kind of you to point them out - they might not be for me as a hard-nosed business tycoon ( too much Earl Grey I think :o ) because they are likely to be the novels that everyone is selling but wouldn't they be great for putting aside for Christmas or taking on holiday?

Completely off post but on topic - I just remembered the other day that a book I sold on Amazon a few years back was to someone of the same name as the author, I wondered if it was someone buying the book just because it was his name too so I emailed him.

Yes, it was the author, if I remember correctly he said that he had been given 10 for free, after that he had to buy them from the publisher at a reduced price but he found it cheaper to buy them from Amazon when he wanted to give them away to friends.

I ordered a CD box set a few weeks ago from an Amazon seller. Today I got a card demanding customs charges of £9.22! It's really not worth it after paying that - anyone well up on what sellers are told about sending goods internationally via Amazon Marketplace? Cheers, L.
Most sellers do say they are dispatching from a foreign country. You can always click on the seller to find out more about them. There are quite a few US sellers on Amazon - when selling something you are asked if you want to sell it overseas, if you say yes you will appear on the various overseas amazon sites. You get extra postage to compensate but its not really that much. Customs charges are the buyers respondsibility. Everyone should take this into account when buying from an overseas seller. I believe customs charges kick in at £18? I'm not sure about that. I don't think you pay customs charges if you buy from an EU country or seller.

I was also thinking if Amazon could make the wish lists available to other sellers (like someone else has stated) we could go out and look for specific items - would greatly reduce the amount of "stock" we had to hold.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you get buyer feedback on Amazon? I have sold about 8 books now but my seller name still says "I'm new!". On Ebay I have left feedback for sellers but the ebay website is set up so that you are automatically reminded to give feedback. I have had a couple of very kind e-mails fom buyers saying thanks and that their book had arrived safely, but so far no feedback. Do I have to ask for it?
Can one of you kind people please explain how I get feedback?

    Thanks,

    Chikadee

When you email people to say the books have been dispatched, ask them politely to give you feedback?
  • Amazon sends out an email days later asking if the buyer want to leave feedback, this email has a link to the site and takes them to the page...'horse to water'?

I wish I knew how to get more feedback, I've only had five buyers leave feedback and I've sold a lot more than that. I have a 100% rating and no-one has ever complained, I can only conclude that buyers are busy/lazy/forgetful.

I recently sold a copy of The Bells of Hell Go Ting-a-ling-a-ling by Eric Hiscock to..... another Mr Hiscock (the author is probably dead by now, or celebrating his 105th birthday!).

Now I can't stop remembering that advert with J R Hartley's Fly Fishing :rotfl:
