Many of the rules in the Code are legal requirements, and if you disobey these rules you are committing a criminal offence. You may be fined, given penalty points on your licence or be disqualified from driving. In the most serious cases you may be sent to prison. Such rules are identified by the use of the words ‘MUST/MUST NOT’. In addition, the rule includes an abbreviated reference to the legislation which creates the offence. An explanation of the abbreviations can be found in 'The road user and the law'.

So I guess that implies it's not enforced by law, but since it says do not perhaps if you cause an accident by doing it then you could be done for dangerous driving?

I don't think this is the starting point though. What about the guy that joins the motorway, bullies his way out to the right and won't drop back in before 100yds from his/her exit. Now this includes a lot of drivers that really should know better, the ones that are on there everyday doing probably 60k miles a year. You behave curtiously because come a gap in the traffic you know the car behind will accelerate away faster, so pull in and you get bogged down?

I'm sure that this is what drives the middle lane moron thing, they are scared of being trapped in the lefthand lane so avoid it.

The one thing that never ceases to amaze me is the car that comes up behind when you are in the 2nd lane, (because theres traffic in the 1st), slows from 80+ to seventy, tailgates you for the next mile even though theres nothing in the 3rd, only to fly off again when you pull in, how do you categorise that type?:confused::confused:

The rules are due a refresh, times have changed.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I was in a 7.5T truck once, I can't use the 3rd lane legally, and this freakin numpty just sat in the middlelane with room to his left, but not going faster than the cars to the left, I could not undertake because there was not enough room to do it.

I was really angry, beeping, flashing driving too close etc. But he would not move, he probably thought "Why don't you overtake in the righthand lane like everyone else?"!!!!

Of course I considered it, but overtaking in the 3rd lane in a lorry is going to be like a red flag to a bull if there was any cops within a mile infront or behind, they would see me and know exactly that I was in the 3rd lane. I tried undertaking but this Ct knew exactly what I was doing and refused to let me.

Eventually I probably did do it in the 3rd lane and then accelerated away into the distance. Unfortunately this freakin A-HOLE about 30 miles further on just overtook me in the 3rd lane and dropped himself right infront of me again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I had seen him coming I would have closed the gap, but then he would just have dropped in further ahead, and again the cars would be able to overtake him but not the lorries.

I decided to pull off at the next junction and go to Tescos.

Now I have sympathy for truck drivers if they experiance this on a regular basis.
But the truck drivers who annoy me are the ones who come close behind you when you are in lane1 !!! Where the F. do they expect me to go? onto the hard shoulder? And no I won't speed up, I'm happy doing 50 - 56 in my wee car. And if only these AHOLEs would time their overtake properly and go into the 2nd lane, they would QUICKLY find out that I am more than willing to accommodate them by
    1) Slowing down to allow them to pass me quicker
    2) Flashing my headlights when their rear end passes my front bumper

    A-HOLES!

and then they dont even flash thier hazards to acknowledge this.
i think this is what you call foriegn truckers.

I have a full beam, a horn, and if that fails an empty left lane to use. Works for me!

What's funny is that as soon as you steam past them on the inside lane, they flash their lights like it's you who's doing something wrong!:confused:

    <cue namby-pamby do-gooders saying "you shouldn't be undertaking">

Erm, get out of the middle lane then??

Everyone I know rants on about middle lane morons, but there are still 1000s of them.

Oh well, I had another "going all the way round a roundabout, but using the left hand lane and not indicating" encounter yesterday.

Up our way the motorways can be fairly quiet at times (all lanes empty) and they still sit in the middle lane (sometimes the outside lane...eek). If I come up behind them now I just stay in the inside lane and overtake that way. They are normally so surprised when I glower at them.

The best ones are 'little miss rep' in the fiesta. You pass them, and if you look in the rear view mirror you see a squirt of water from their windscreen washers. Then the wipers go on, followed by indicators. As they fade into the distance behind you, you see a feeble flash of light as they finally find the headlight flash lever :-)

    And the BMW Mini now.
  • Much as I hate to admit it, it is predominantly women who partake in this annoying practice. Just about every day they cause holdups on my local motorway by sitting in the middle lane when the inside lane is clear, not properly paying attention to all the people round about them trying to get past.
