Just to add a little balance to this thread, yes there are disohonest people out there, but, how many of us have had our honesty checked recently and at what level:? to put things into perspective a little if you were a spotty possibly disgruntled underpaid and overworked employee and presented with a gift of £30.00 would you pass the test? or would you think to yourself "anyone who could forget £30.00 can afford to lose it" "my need is greater" "I'll give it back if they remember" "oh my god I screwed up if I hand it in I'll get done anyway for not following procedure" let's face it there are many reasons to hang on to uncollected cash but only one to cough it up conscience, the temptation may have just been too great for this individual at this time in their life, I like to regard myself as an honest person but would rather that honesty wasn't tested at too high a level because if times were hard and it meant providing for my children or not then I probably wouldn't thing too long or hard.
Then there are the greedy little buggers who sit there all day farming cashback out in the hope someone will forget and they can get extra booze in tonight!!Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
Following on from 'Ben's' posting .. how many people complain half as loudly if they get too much change or cashback. I have seen several postings on this board where people have received too much and the attitude is 'serves the shop right'. Therefore yet again we prove that we are a very opportunistic species that will lie if it suits our purposes ... but god help anybody who makes a mistake against us (accidently or otherwise).
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -

ME! It's worth it to try and give the shop back their money to see the look on the cashiers face!
I'm quite happy to take advantage of mispricing, coupon errors and special offers, but if someone tries to give me back too much money due to their error or new special offers, my conscience doesn't allow me to profit.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Snap!! I was in the post office the other week collcting my dissabillity money. I was convinced he had not deducted the stamps i had bought from my money, he kept saying he had done. I refused to leave untill he had re checked all the amounts and how much he had given me. I was right he had given me just over £1 too much. He was actually amazed that someone had argued over too much money being paid but i couldn't do it, its not honest0 -
I've done it as well - most errors seem to occur in restaurants where they've missed items off our bill. Some even waive the charge after I've pointed it out.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

Pleased to see you finally got your money back. I work on the Checkouts in a large supermarket and it is not our company policy to ask the customer to initial the receipt. I count the cash to the customer when I give them their card back and then I initial their receipt and the one that I keep. That is just my double check in case of any problem. Our tills do remind us to give the cash because it shows up as change on the screen.0

Also wanted to say that a lot of customers prefer to use cash back rather than the ATM because of worries in case the machine has been tampered with0

I had a similar thing in Asda's and didn't realise till evening. Went straight down and was told would have to wait till following day when they had cashed up customer service till (got served there). They phoned the next day to confirm the time then said they'd phone back but didn't. Rang that night and spoke to manger, he said till was only £18 up (had asked for £50 cash back), but they would refund as goodwill gesture. Got it back next time I was in - was impressed in the end, but think I had won argument as their assistant hadn't initialled receipt.
Once got given change of £50 instead of £20 in Post Office - didn't notice till outside. Went back in & queued again & told him had been given wrong change. He butted right in & said 'you're too late, I say you leave the shop' in a really nasty manner, so I replied 'ok I'll keep it then' and walked out. :rotfl:A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

I've had the same thing happen to me regarding being given too much change. Having worked in a supermarket during my A-Levels a few years back, I know what it can be like when someone's till is down. One girl's till was down about £20 once and there was quite a fuss over it.
One of the occasions I was given too much change (granted, it was a small amount) I went back and said "Hi, you've just served me. You've given me £1 too much". I've never seen someone look so shocked in my life. The thought that someone was honest with her must have scared her silly.
Hopefully she didn't over-change too often.Boo!0
