I wasn't being critical of the OP - you've just got the wrong end of the stick :rotfl:. I was showing the post which I quoted in my earlier message to be completely wrong. I was backing up the OP in his/her stance that the money was not given.

It is easy to walk away from a cashpoint but when you do that from a till there is someone to shout "You forgot your cash!".

I was not implying the OP was "severely retarted". :p

Thank you! I am not 'severely !!!!!!' just a busy mum of two with other things on my mind. Yes I should of remembered about the cashback but in between trying to keep an eye on one child who was sat on the chairs near the checkout and my baby crying, trying to pack the shopping, keep an eye on my bag, hand over my coupons, clubcard and payment I forgot the money, an easy mistake to make but it should of been easily rectified when the till was counted and it wasn't which is the issue here, not that I forgot the money but the fact that it is now missing

It would be much better if all shops made you initial the receipt AFTER handing over your money. My local Tesco does this, they write the notes given ie: 2x£10, then you initial it.

I didn't inital the receipt at any time to show I had the cashback so that is not the issue this time but I agree with what you are saying.

Martin started a campaign about this a while ago ... can't remember what the outcome was. The OP has accused Tescos, or at least one of their members of staff, of theft although I wonder how many customers have tried to steal money this way ... by claiming they did not get the money when they actually did?

It is your money you should take more care ... I hope you do get your money back .. but you have to accept a significant amount of the responsibility.

Maybe the supermarkets should simply stop offering this service ... it is obviously causing them grief ... if customers ask for cash back they should just point them to the nearest cash machine. Much simpler and no hassle.

I DID NOT GET THE MONEY!! I am not trying to claim it twice as you seem to be implying.

I have said that I made a mistake in not remembering it but the issue now is where the money is. The till should of been £30 over at the end of the day and it wasn't. That is where my problem lies.

The manager said that if it was £10 he would just give it to me no questions asked but because it is more he needs to investigate.

I can't believe the attitude and rudeness of some people on this board and what they are implying about me. I asked for advice on where I stand and what I should do next and while some people were kind enough to offer this advice others have insulted me and called me names.

No offence OP, but you did basically accuse the cashier of stealing your money! I think that got a few people's backs up. It certainly made me lose sympathy for you, as you seemed to think that it was entirely the cashier's fault and in no way yours.

If the money had been put on the little shelf tesco have for signing non-chip'n'pin cards, another customer could have picked it up (some cashiers will put the receipts, money and everything on there for you to pick up)

Anyway, on to some constructive advice: ask for cctv footage, and a full investigation. Deal only with the store manager, and make notes of every meeting/phone call/contact you have with them. Make a fuss - usually Tesco will pay up rather than have any bad publicity.

I don't want to divert the thread away from the original question but do Tescos actually have as mucch CC footage as is being hinted at here? Is every till being taped 24/7 (or whatever their opening hours are)? If so I am surprised there is not an uproar about invasion of privacy etc. etc. (I will have to be careful about which areas of my body I scratch at the checkouts from now on).

Bec28, I was not implying anything about you (or at least did not mean to), I was just putting forward the point that in the past some people have tried to diddle shops in this manner - hence another example of the dishonest minority spoiling it for the honest majority. I have actually made the same mistake as you and to be honest I called myself all the names under the sun for my own stupidity and carelessness ... I had to go back into the store cap-in-hand to get it sorted out ... which fortunately it was ... hopefully yours will also be sorted out.

Thanks Ivan. I wouldn't of though Tesco can have cctv on every checkout all of the time. Even if they do would it be close up enough to see everything or just a general view of the tills? Will definately ask about it anyway.

To answer your specific point, you can't walk away from a cash machine unless you are severely !!!!!! and somehow forget in the preceding ten seconds that you just requested cash, and also don't hear the cash being counted :p
:o I should mentioned that I've done this a couple of times... it's easier than you'd think

i remember sara cox even walking away from a cash machine without her money, she said it ages ago on the radio.

it is possible to walk away from the cash machine if people get distracted.....hence why cahspoint thieves are succesful they use distraction most of the time.

I have walked away from Tesco's till without my shopping because I was so busy checking my receipt to make sure every item was entered correctly at the correct price and quantity and thought my companion had putthe bags in the trolley.

Often you get your cashback/ change with your receipt.

    People will get distracted

    Nobody is perfect!

To the OP, good luck in getting it sorted!
