Can these be operated as internet accounts with the 100 quid or are they branch visit and pass book, The Yorkshire and Leeds is in my country, I assume they don't have those charity thingies attached
Yorkshire and Leeds do have the charity signaway clause, wouldnt take too much notice of them as none have ever been enacted in any merger event.
Best if you visit the websites concerned to see what accounts are available as some mentioned have restrictions for non locals. i.e Shepshed ( minimum 1000 to non locals with min 5000 for a fixed rate for non locals) Darlington also have non local restrictions.
Manchester is minimum 1000.00, Brittannia best to open a direct saver, Monmouth best to open xmas saver with 100.00 then do 1.00 a month.
Nationwide 100.00 in a fixed rate account ( just as a no lose gamble.)
Barnsley just stick 100.00 in its flexisaver account. ( no monthly payments required)
Leeds, Coventry, Ipswich and Dunfermline visit websites and see what they are offering for 100.00
Chelsea have 100.00 accounts available. ( Branch account and by post)
http://www.thechelsea.co.uk/savings/invest_dg2_intro.html
Derbyshire 250 in this http://www.thederbyshire.co.uk/savings/notice_accounts/postal_30_triple_guarantee.aspx
or 100.00 in I-Saver if its still available with 100.00
Saffron Waldron 100.00 in e-saver, Market Harborough 100.00 in 30 day e-saver account
National Counties, 100.00 in Direct saver, Principality 100.00 in e-saver, KRBS 100.00 in 1 or 2 year fixed rate account
Westbromwich 100.00 in new 6.55% instant access postal account.
Cheshire, Beverley, Furness, Chorley, Earl Shilton, Mansfield, Newbury, Norwich, Nottingham, Scarborough, Tipton, Skipton ( Regular savers are recommended for these, most stick 100.00 in then pay the min allowed per month)
Newcastle 100.00 in BMW or Mini e-saver, Stroud and Swindon 100.00 if close to a Branch.
Best thing is put name of BS in Google Search, u will then get website details from their u can look through savings range and see whats available.0 -

They used to operate a local yokels only clause. I was rebuffed on a personnal visit a couple of years ago. Having just visited their website, I came across this, "as long as you live within our savings accounts operating area. To see if you live within this area please click here." . Sorry I couldn't post an operating link but it just goes to another page where the following appears.
Branches If anyone is thinking about opening an a/c. with a distant Society, it may be advisable to check first that do not have local yokel clauses. i.e. Dudley, Cambridge, Cumberland, Marsden, Newbury, Penrith, Progressive and Vernon.
These are only applicable to my location (W. Mids.) and will vary according to where you are geographically located.
Incidentally, I compiled this list about 18 months ago so it may be out of date by now !0 -
Nationwide
KRBS
Skipton
Chelsea
Derbyshire
As above along with Britannia, Leeds (& Holbeck) Scarborough, and Yorkshire BS
Would like more, but most of mine have the windfall clauses on them, and then also they have locality clauses
(Have gone down the very helpful list above and will be applying for West Brom, Coventry, Newcastle, and probably Marsden (very close to me and I qualify for the lower rates of account opening), possibly Ecology (even closer!!) and maybe Cumberland. The rates of interest actually isn't that bad on most of them.Nothing to see here :beer:0 -
I don't live anywhere Newbury and opened an account with them 2 months ago. Despite what it says on the website, the seem to have relaxed the rules.
I phoned a branch and said I past by frequently and had seen the monthly saver advertised could they send the application form out.
They did so and everything was fine.

This was reason i didnt mention the Societies u have listed along with a few others.
Newbury i mentioned because I was aware that they had been letting people in from outside their Branch operating area.
Newbury tell me that in order for the bonus to be given for each of the 3 years ( Monthly saver) the original monthly payment cant be reduced for the entire 3 years. e.g if opened with 35.00 which was what i opened mine with in order to hit 100.00 in 3 months,:o minimum monthly payment for entire 3 years is 35.00. _pale_0 -
