Actually the Broom Cupboard was a tiny branch of the Stroud & Swindon BS in Holborn, much beloved by the regulars on Carpetbagger.com before it morphed & became rpoints.

Says in Nottingham here by a distinguished 2000 member.:confused::confused:

I've got 32 out of the 59 remaining.

"Most" of the ones I have acquired have been due to regular savers with above average rates (6.50% and above). .

Including Nationwide i count 11 different Building Societies Reg savers paying over 6% with only 7 including Nationwide paying 6.50% and above.:confused::confused:

( 10 Skipton Reg savers only count as 1 of the "32 of the 59 remaining" )
  • I have 37 of the remaining 59 and the other half has 36. Personally think we will have a couple of mergers over the next 12-18 months as they shore up their reserves due to the credit crunch

Hmm, maybe my memory is going! I joined Notts & S&S at the same time. Holborn used to be the centre of the world for Carpetbagging.

I remember Becles & The Artist well, haven't heard those names for ages.

When I opened the accounts they were paying over 6.50%. The rate may have subsequently dropped if the rate was variable. I've just counted 17 DIFFERENT BS Reg Savers paying over 6.00% and that includes Skipton BS just ONCE.

Well, I hope all you folks are keeping your accounts active so that Gordon Brown, Alastair Darling and their Treasury mates can't come and grab your accounts as being dormant if they haven't been used for 15 years.

Sure, I pay in money and withdraw money every 3 years from all accounts to ensure they remain active:beer:
