  • I got my claim form from Direct Line Legal PRotection today. Nothing to lose now.

B&Q if you are reading, i'll see you in court (and because I have 'consumer jurisdiction', it will be MY local court, not your's)

I spoke to Sam Stray a couple of times last week. On the Wednesday she was very sympathetic to my story and said she was going to phone Doncaster to see if they had any alternatives they could offer me. I told her this would be acceptable and left it with her going to get back to me after she'd check this out.
On Thursday, my other half recieved a call from Sam saying that there are no alternatives and no chance of stock being reserved for me next year as they didn't know what their stock or suppliers was going to be. All she was able to offer was £20 voucher 'in recognition of your disappointment'. To this my wife said she would need to speak to me.
She called me at work and I phoned Sam Stray - She just repeated what she'd told my wife. I sugested something from the Jungle Gym range as an alternative and she said all that she'd been authorised to offer was the £20 voucher. And if I wasn't satisfied with that then I should seek impartial advice.

    Wizz.

EXACT same conversation and attitude - word for word from Sam. Promised delivery last week (all empathy, etc) , she called yesterday and tough luck!, no stock. No vouchers and said she looked forward to receiving my solicitors instruction!!!.

B&Q are actually enjoying this whole thing. It's perverted.

At the end of the day its damage limitation from B+Q if there are say 100 complaints and they offer the £20 voucher maybe 60 might accept, then the other 40 may take them to court or they may not either way they are just trying to limit the amount of money they have to give out, if you look at it from a businness point of view it makes sense

    Deanos,

You're very right (see my earlier posts 751 1& 754). This is a case of fob off those you can, delay as much as possible and any hangers on deal with either in court or case by case basis.

It was always damage limitation, but this is actually B&Q's business model (if you check the internet, their online service is famous for over orders, partial deliveries, fob offs and poor service). Watchdog has had them many times, they come on TV and apologise and then go right back and do it again. It is obviously financially profitable to behave like this as they probably pay less out in compo then they lose in court.

diy.com and b&q stores are run as totally seperate business's. The problem being though that the general public dont know this. so if i were b&g stores i would not be happy as the diy.com site are just ruining b&q's reputation across the board.

I stated way back on the first page of this thread that when i ordered my mckinley last year (not such a brilliant price though) that diy.com mucked it all up. i went and ordered it in store in the end and had no problems what so ever. But some people just see b&q (which rightly they should) and blame them as an overall company.

This is my first post. Same story as everyone else really so I've written a letter of complaint not had a reply yet but intend to take it all the way. Does anybody know if it worth me buying the swing and slide set i ordered from B & Q from somewhere else while I'm waiting for the outcome of my complaint. I mean if we win will we be paid in cash or vouchers or a repalcement. Don't want to end up with two swings but also want my daughter to enjoy what left of the summer using it?
  • just posting again, to urge people to send their details to rob cardew, trading standards officer on previous page, and he'll forward everything in one nice big bundle to hampsire trading standards.

The problem if you email your local trading standards is that each office will only receive a couple of complaints ant not realise ho big the problem is, but by compiling and sending them all together it shows the scale of the problem.

    TIA
