    Taken from the parenting forum:
Was it for a playcentre? I went on to the ukparents site and lots of people on there. I basically complained bitterley, got a refund but nothing else, not even a sorry so I took it to the local paper and they did a full page on it and B&Q funnily gave me compensation to the amount that we saved on the playcentre. Think i was lucky as in my hubby works for the paper and their headoffice is in Southampton so there was a local angle but may be worth a try. I also contacted Watchdog but they have not contacted me.

Hope you can sort something else, so annoying that they can get away with it. good luck!

Someone asked her which paper this was, but they're still awaiting a reply.

The only regional newspaper group I can find that has some offices in Southampton (Not head office) is Newsquest which publish the Sothern Daily Echo, New Forest Post and Southampton Advertiser http://www.thisishampshire.net

I'm not the king of the castle!
    by Sarah Jones

LITTLE Ben Carter was looking forward to a summer packed full of slaying dragons and rescuing damsels in distress.

With his younger sister Ellen, the three-year-old was counting down the days to the delivery of a play castle after his mum spotted it in an Internet sale.

However, when the big day arrived, all he received was a piece of plastic that even the most active of young imaginations would struggle to find a use for.

Mum Julie, 32, ordered a castle play centre - reduced from £349 to £85.51 - from B&Q online last month.

Featuring a wavy slide, cargo net, rope climbing ramp and tyre swing, Julie thought she had found a real bargain.

She was furious when just the slide was dumped in her garden by delivery men, without a word of apology or explanation.

"It is really frustrating that they can get away with this service and leave children disappointed. Ben was really excited and knew it was being delivered that day," she said.

Instead, Ben has had to make do with mum propping the plastic slide against a chair for him to roll his cars down.

Julie, a part-time receptionist of Avon Meade, Fordingbridge, called B&Q and was eventually informed that the castle had been discontinued and her only option was a refund because no other models were in stock.

"It was really hard to explain why it wasn't coming to Ben," she said.

"I wasn't happy because I had missed all the other sales."

It seems the Carter family were not the only ones feeling let down by the Chandler's Ford-based DIY giant.

Julie logged on to an Internet web forum for parents and discovered scores of other people reporting similar problems with B&Q.

"Most people said they did not receive anything or were

still waiting for delivery," she said.

Last night a B&Q spokesman told the Daily Echo: "We have spoken to Mrs Carter and apologised that the castle play centre has been discontinued and we have no available stock nationwide.

"We have arranged for Mrs Carter to receive a refund for the full amount of her order.

"Mrs Carter has selected a loft playhouse as a replacement product and, as this product is more expensive, we have agreed to pay an amount agreed with Mrs Carter towards it as a gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience she and her family have been caused."

And the playhouse must be http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/product/product.jsp?CATID=8050100&entryFlag=false&PRODID=7020040 priced at £399.00

And they're trying to fob the rest of us off with just an apology and at best a £20 voucher.

It looks like there might be a fair few people up my way who got stuff from this offer as the postie who picked up the tyre accessory that I was returning told me that he's picked up loads of these over the last few days.

Seems they have all gone the same way.

I wonder who you all are......this is only a small area. :D

 well I for one ain't gonna stand for that, £20 they must be joking. I'm going to get legal advice, this just isn't on.

What has everyone done about the charge of postage on items they've received that have been no use because other parts wern't delivered at the same time ?

Well got home last night, and was amazed to see five large packages consisting of the Ben Nevis Play Centre. Unfortunately I will not be able to put it together for at least a month - so won't know until then if there are any little bits missing. But on a quick visual inspection, it all looks to be there in good shape.... If anyone wants to use me as evidence of someone having ordered on the 19th July and having received a Ben Nevis - you may do so.
