    Received from Kingfisher this evening

'Thank you for your email dated 9th August to Kingfisher which has been forwarded to me for reply.
First I would like to apologise for your order not being fulfilled.Unfortunately on the 16th and 17th of July our computer system failed, it continued to take orders for stock that had already been sold.
This has caused problems for many of our customers as we are unable to obtain any more table tennis tables from the supplier. We are refunding all the money along with £20.00 gift vouchers to all the disappointed customers.
I would also like to apologise for the way you were treated when you called our customer service helpline. This will be investigated and dealt with internally.
Should you require further assistance with this matter please don't hesitate to contact me again.
    Yours Sincerely
    Miss Sam Stray'

    Dear Tamsyn

What do you mean "gave her compensation to the amount they'd saved and a refund?" Does this mean that the lady who took her story to the local press was paid the full price of the item rather than just the sale price?

And what aload of rubbish they cannot get anymore tttables. Plum today said they have 35 IN STOCK!!!!!!!!!!!! And that B & Q only have to ask and they can buy them!!
I have made endless calls and stated this but they are not prepared to make a loss, they would rather risk being slagged off on watchdog!

I also said why can't they have the companies make the no of items for everybody that has placed an order that hasn't been delivered and even if we don't get the item till next year at least let us have it at that sale price. But no one wants to listen, and no notes have been made and passed on to higher authority on my behalf to this effect. I think it's a disgrace the way we are all being fobbed off with £20. I've spent more than this on calls!! Watchdog here I come!! :wall:

Still doesn't answer why those like myself who PURCHASED on the 15th didn't get their stuff either. The issue of selling on stuff that has already been purchased by others hasn't been addressed.

Say I bought some heavy items from a local shop, paid for then then asked if I could leave them around the back of the counter whilst I fetched the car nearer, I wouldn't expect the shop to re-sell by goods!!! Oops, silly me... unless it was B&Q of course...tsk... whatever was I thinking...

    Soz, me again...

*And* I think £20 compensation *per customer* isn't on either. I placed 3 orders in total for friends and family. Just 'cause I placed their orders doesn't mean that they shouldn't be compensated too ?! Why not £20 per item per order indeed !!

... Pre-menstrual and got one on her like... :D

he said that that was what had been passed from their Legal Dept and to offer £20 in gift vouchers for B&Q and if that was refused a cheque for £20.

He also told me that B&Q had now fulfilled their obligations

Don't accept gift vouchers whatever the value offered, ask for a cheque.
Goods purchased with gift vouchers won't actually cost them £20, a cheque will ;)
Why should B & Q have you all spending these vouchers in their stores after this consumer nightmare and possibly entice you to spend more whilst your in the shop.

Hit them where it hurts, £££££££££££££ :p

Only repeated what I read, sorry I don't know any more than that. I believe that she's in the Southampton area.

This is the direct link to the message.

If that doesn't work, you may need to register. The post is about no 14 down on Consumer/Bargains board. Titled 'It was me' under 'B&Q - wwww.diy.com problem?'

Looks like the Ben Nevis has been delivered - left with neighbours, as no one could stay at home to receive - so will check tonight to see what actually arrived....
