First of all, I don't do measurements so you have to use some common sense with quantities in my recipes.
Lightly fry some onion, add some chopped garlic and fry for a few more minutes. Leave to cool.
In a bowl, mix some lean minced beef, the onion and garlic mixture, a handful of breadcrumbs and some mixed or italian herbs. Pop in a beaten egg, mix well and then blend.
Form into small balls and dry fry in a pan. They don't need to be cooked through at this stage as I finish them off in the oven in a simple tomato sauce made by frying more onion and garlic, adding some tinned chopped tomatoes and fresh basil.
The sauce can be adapted to add peppers etc and can be left rough or blended.
And if you don't trust me you might want to try Delia's meatballs instead.:D0 -
Hiya,
I've added your post onto our main thread about meatballs. Not just tips and recipes for the meatballs themselves but sauces that they can be served in.

Hi folks
Soor for butting in on your thread, just stumbled across it, hope you don't mind.
Here is a very easy tomato sauce recipe, which makes a large saucepan full & can be frozen.Tomato Sauce Recipe
· Olive oil
· 6 tins of crushed tomatoes or 4 bottles of passata
· 6 cloves of garlic
· 2/3 tablespoons of Italian herbs
· 2 bay leaves crushed
· 2 teaspoons of salt
· Pepper to own taste
· 3 small tins of tomato puree
· 2/3 teaspoons of sugar
· 2 large glasses of red wine
Method
Peel & chop the onions, peel & crush the garlic. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan, add the Italian herbs & crushed bay leaves, add the onions & garlic and stir, add salt, pepper & sugar to pan, keep stirring until the onions go soft and clear.
Add the tomatoes or passata and bring to the boil, lower the heat & add the tomato puree, also add 1 glass of wine, check for seasoning, adjust to your own taste. Simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
Take the second glass of wine, sit in front of the TV and drink the wine! Enjoy.
This is the perfect base for any Italian dish, and works well with Beef. Chicken, Turkey mince or any white fish.
The sauce will freeze perfectly, that's why you make such a big pan full.
Also try it as Bolognaise, spooned onto garlic bread slices, topped with mozzarella cheese & sprinkled with herbs, a tasty mini pizza snack.
Let me know what you think folks, and pass it on if anyone else wants a copySparky0107 - Sealed pot challenge member #002. Total for SPC3 £1,030.57 Total For SPC 4 £2247.00 Total for SPC 5 £2574.62 :T Total for SPC 6 £4552.91:T

How about some fresh herbs
Mint goes well with lamb.
Alternatively try a different recipe - meatballs.

If you really don't like a herb, spice or seasoning, leave it out. 99.9 times the overall dish still works fine.
As we're talking lamb here, I'd agree with 'Lady Penelope' and go for a little bit of mint, even mint sauce. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

Spaghetti and meatballs, meatballs, chips and gravy (like in Ikea), koftas....meatball curry (there is a proper name for it, but I can't think at the moment)We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0
