The custompc website wont work from my work server :(
But it worked at home :) As did the new PC that finally came.. and ur right, it is quiet, and a nice white & silver colour :)
Just a bit miffed that my Microsoft Multimedia keyboard couldnt plug in as there was no PS/2 port.
The Hard Drive is louder than the 3000 too, although that may just be where the open casing lets the noise out.

BUt all in all, quality piece of kit :)

Yes - I forgot to say that there are no PS/2 ports for keyboard or mouse - these are USB only. Hopefully my Saitek mouse is a USB one!
My graphics card came this morning (top marks to Dabs) so there's going to be a bit of rebuilding going on tonight - take out the modem (got broadband so don't need it) and swap the graphics card.
I didn't notice the hard drive noise, but since this PC is going under my desk it won't bother me too much anyway.

I got delivery of my 5100 yesterday andit is very quiet when not doing anything, but when the hard drive goes into action it is terrible. Really clicky and clunky. Phoned customer service and let them listen! They offered to repair it - said no as I only took delivery yesterday and they are going to send a new one. Does anyone know if they are quick with these returns? Apart from that.... I am pleased with it.

they should send an engineer next day to rectify any faults it could be a dodgy harddrive an easy fix ,
might be quicker than waiting for another one to be made and the old one collected

My first proper play with the 5100 now I am back from work.

Tried to play a CD, and it didnt recognise the 1st.
The media player then didnt respond, and froze my PC for 5 minutes. Tried to CTRL ALT DELETE but even thiks took 2 minutes.
tried a 2nd (CD-R), and it just made a truly terrifying noise for a full 60 seconds at least, until I took the disc out. It never played.
The 3rd disc has played, but the drive appears to be whirring at 40x or somthing stupid, and making a lot of noise to go with it.

The PC also tried to install something on Norton I believe, and told me to uninstall and then reinstall, all of its own accord.

And the Hard Drive was making a racket, but is now quiet for the moment.

    Are all these teething problems??

If I didnt know better I would have sworn the 3000 was the newer model

Anybody else had any of these problems?

Just awaiting delivery (between 5 and 9). Loud knock on the door 10mins ago had me diving excitedly to open it - double glazing salesman
I do hope there aren't going to be too many glitches (NONE would be good) as I know nothing about computers - I'm not sure I'd even notice things like excessive noise from hard drive :o . We will get it all set up to test it before DS takes it away to Uni, though. There was me saying innocently: Shouldn't we just leave it in the boxes to take? :D Went down like a lead balloon with DS, lol! :rotfl:

smashed - just checked my cd and it's playing fine. The odd thing is that it is now quiet as a mouse! Shut it down and restarted and it's still quiet. Don't know quite what to make of it. Will wait and see what happens by tomorrow and decide if I should still accept new machine. Could be the hard drive is dodgy anyway and I should just exchange it....in case.

I have this type of problem everytime i boot.I really want the xp disc from dell so i can just install xp and not their crappy software.Plus i like xp in windows classic. So i changed it to classic, but everytime i switch off it reverts back to xp
My hardrive is very quiet indeed!.I have a seagate 200 sata which is loud comapred to the dell maxtor

Another minor problem i have is i put another dvd-rw drive in the second bay but everytime i eject a disc it makes a noise and vibrates in the case

In my experience Norton is terrible for trying to uninstall once installed, so I just didn't install it. I have my own anti virus stuff.
