Hi has anyone had any experience of Link-financial lin? My mbna cc has been sold to them but i'm struggling to get in touch with them to get the necessary details for the cccs!! Shame they won't just get on and sell my loan!! Instead of sending me letters with red writing on that look like something my little brother could knock up on his computer at home lol!! Still having review with cccs soon and hopefully all my new expenditure should allow me to start paying everything right again lol!!

Tried looking online for you and can't find much really. Have you had a letter from Link yet or just one from MBNA saying its going to Link?

You could write to MBNA and tell them you have not recieved anything keep a copy of it then you have proof that you tried. Then sit back and wait the ball is in there courts. I appreciate that is frustrating and you want to "sort" things.

Hi, just a quick visit as filling in my court papers  I'm admiting the main part of the claim but defending the arrears as I have already paid some of them and also defending the costs and interest. Not entirely sure that I am doing the right thing, but going round in circles wit this and need to get it replied to. Although, I do think I should defend the costs and interest as we are on DMP and obviously these charges will not help us to reduce the debt any, and NR have already had the capital sum repaid in interest alone over the last 7 years!

Also had second statement from Co-Op since they agreed to accept DMP and we were told interest would be a "nominal" .5%. First statement still had interest on but I let that go, but statement today still had interest on so I called, only to be told, that "it shouldn't have been agreed that interest would be reduced". Well it was! So eventually they said that as I had been told that it would be reduced they would agree to .75% for 12 months.

Also had first CCCS statement today which has confused me as they have our Monmument cc down as start balance £0.00 with no payment made to them but then end balance what it should be. The amount paid out of our dmp payment is less the amount that should have gone to Monmument and they were on our original list of creditors with the correct amount, so don't know what's going on there!

Lots to do today so will catch up later x

  • I am looking at a DMP and am just working up the courage to call Payplan back. I have been dealing with my debt myself and have never had an out loud conversation with anyone about it so pretty nervous. OK, I feel sick just thinking about it! Anyway, it would be really good if people could share what they wished they had known before starting a DMP if you know what I mean?

I was the same as you, so I went to CCCS and filled in their online debt remedy - you can enter all your income and expenses etc online and they then let you know their suggestions, whether a DMP is a good idea for you. That way you don't need to speak to them unless they have any queries or unless you want to ;)

The thing I'm glad I knew (from this board) before going on a DMP:
that your debt will increase for the first few months as you will be paying reduced amounts and the interest and charges will take a little while to stop

The things I wish I knew:

The phone calls from creditors wouldn't be nearly as bad as I was expecting.

How jealous I would feel of people booking holidays abroad, skiing holidays etc (that I used to go with them on - all adding to my huge debt of course).

How relieved I would feel when everyone talks of the credit crunch and rising interest, that almost all my interest is stopped and my debt is reducing.

How long it would take me to really learn to budget and build up an emergency fund - still seem to have problems saving anything, even just for car tax and car repairs

    And finally, the biggie:
How much of a huge relief and enormous weight off the shoulders it would be from the very first DMP payment and having the knowledge that someone else is there to HELP!!!!

    Oh My Goodness,

Here are the things I wish I had known during the sleepless nights before we started our DMP.

    > Bailiffs cannot just turn up at your door for unsecured debt until you haven't paid, have gone through the courts, have had a CCJ and haven't paid that. In other words you have to ignore the situation for quite a long time. I was honestly scared that bailiffs would be at the house to repossess our belongings within a few weeks of reducing our payments :o .

    > Most call centre employees are pleasant people and are understanding when you explain you are starting a DMP.

    > Most of the correspondence you receive is computer generated and is not a personal threat to you.

    > Defaults look scary, but if you are tackling your debts are nothing to worry about.

The most important thing is a DMP puts you back in control rather than the debts controlling your life. We spent years "robbing Peter to pay Paul" and my only regret about the DMP is that I didn't tackle things a few years (and a few 10s of £1000s) ago. .

Hope this helps a bit, we're with Payplan too and they have been fantastic.

    Sam,

  • Thanks newlywed. I really, really, really just can't have an out loud conversation with them. I will just cry at them if they are even slightly nice or helpful!

Oh yes, that's me too. In fact I've been on the DMP a year now and was sobbing down the phone to CCCS for the first time last month as I didn't have enough money for car tax and MOT let alone if the car failed the MOT!! They were sooooo incredibly nice and sorted out a reduced payment for that month and it was a huge relief.

But at the beginning I knew they would only have to ask "how did you get into debt" and I'd have started off and not been able to talk!!

The fact that CCCS had an online option was the number 1 reason for me choosing them over Payplan. I started my whole DMP with no phone calls at all, everything was via website, email or post.

  • Thanks sam89. I have just been pretending that everything will be OK and will sort itself out. Dumb.
