Good morning everyone - hope the Saturday post has brought good news and not bad?

    A little update my end.

Had letters from MBNA (two accounts) yesterday advising they are accepting DMP for 12 months and reduced interest to 0%:j Also spoke with Mint who advised that they would be accepting DMP (again two accounts) but don't have that in writing yet. I was quite surprised by MBNA as I am sure I have read that a lot of people have big problems with them? (and MINT?) I can honestly say that no one has made any threats (apart from NR but will get onto that in a minute  ) or harrassed us by phone to make bigger payments - although many don't have our phone number - LOL!

Re "The Rock"; I wrote to them on Wednesday (recorded) requesting a copy of my CCA and statement of account using National DL template letter. In this morning's post I have received what appears to be a statement (although really it is just a quarterly statement that they usually send out anyway) I'm not sure if this in response to my request or not - nothing mentioned about CCA? I really want this, cos I want to see the terms of this loan because as far as I can make out, it was NEVER going to get repaid based on their figures. The statement i had today refers to charges (interest) of £975.17 and payments of £859.40 both representing 3 months interest and payments. Now the payments I made were exactly what they told me was the correct amount, but that amount isn't even paying all of the interest let alone the capital?  Something must be going wrong here - the loan has not decreased by one penny in six years, and I know our payments have been a bit hit and miss over that period, but surely this has to start reducing at some point? I also sent NR another letter from NDL concerning how the court would respond to their unreasonableness in not trying to come to an agreement with us pre-court. May also send them another one as they also subscribe to the Banking Code, which does state that they will "do their utmost to assist customers facing financial difficulty!" - yeah right!

I'm not going to request CCA's from the company's that have accepted DMP cos I don't want to rock the boat - I think I will only do it with the ones who are difficult - LLoyds I hope you are listening? (all of my accounts - loans and cc were opened online and all before 2006)

On the personal front, doctor has signed me off for another 2 weeks. Spoke to work who were kind of ok, but didn't really get a lot of sympathy, not that it is sympathy I'm after but would be nice to know that they cared just a little bit, but then I guess that's employers for you. Financially we can just about manage DMP payment on 1 May and probably 1 June, but need to make a decision as I can't live on SSP indefinately. DH is waiting for the outcome of a PI claim which would help, but don't really want to have to live off of that money.

Oh well, that's more than enough from me for a Saturday morning. Have a good day everyone. :D

Although one final observation - lots of people saying their LBM came after their line of credit was cut? Doesn't this just reinforce that if the lenders hadn't been so liberable with it in the first place, most of us wouldn't be where we are now, at least certainly not to the great extent that many of us are?

    Hi all and hi Loopy,

Just thought i'd give an update on the week as i've been really busy at work and not had time to come on and write this week.

Well, i received all my paperwork from Payplan on Wed and checked and signed it, and posted it back on Thursday. I spent loads of time changing over my DD's from my Lloyds bank account to my new Coop current account this week. I received letters from MBNA, Lloyds Loans and an email and letter from Egg telling me that I had cancelled the DD to pay them, which I knew lol. Egg told me that I was in breach of contract as it is part of the agreement with them to have a DD set up. Anyway, now that they have got in contact I now have all their addresses to send my 'DMP with Payplan' letters and token payments to, which is helpful.

Now that I have a cheque book with Co-op do you think its ok to write the token payments by cheque? Can they use the details from the cheque to get more money? Its easier for me to write a cheque you see.

I do feel a lot more positive now and ready to face any crap that comes my way. Before i'd be all of a panic when it came to finances, but now I just feel 'they cant have what I haven't got'. I will repay everything i've ever borrowed but on different terms. (I feel like this now as i'm up to my eyeballs in GCSE coursework moderation, so once i've done it i'll be all of a dither again as i'll have time to think about it lol).

I did an amazing thing yesterday - went to Asda with a calculator and a £20 note and a few £1 coins. I managed to do a weekly shop for £21.78!!! Granted I didn't need to buy and cleaning/washing products or dog food, but we managed to get the essentials all own brand products too.
It taught me a huge lesson and opened my eyes to how I used to shop. I wouldn't care about what I bought and would always get named brand stuff and yesterday I noticed just how much extra that would cost me. I know some of the stuff I bought wont be as good quality, but for the price I wont complain.

Loopy, hope you are ok and everythings ok?
  • So what landed on the doormat on this Saturday morning?

Barclaycard stating they will accept our monthly payment, but they are still adding interest so the debt is getting bigger despite our payments! Grrrrr ...

But I did have a nice letter for a change; I returned some shortbread that tasted of cheese (don't ask) and received a £10 cheque in return! Woo hoo!

    :)

  • rugby - we shop using a calculator too (OH adds up as we go around the supermarket) as we have a set amount to spend on groceries. I always challenge myself to spend under budget, which to-date I have done and the surplus goes into a "birthday" fund!

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Morning Everyone,

My mountain of post was yesterday. Only one letter today from Mercers (Barclaycard) stating I'll get a default notice if I don't sent them a payment. Can't say that worries me too much as they already sent the default notice last week!

A fairly quiet week really, yesterday was the only day I got any real hassle, but that was all repeats of letters I've been sent before so trying not to worry about it.

Looking forward to the week ahead as my promotion at work should be confirmed and I'm hoping it will bring a small payrise. It'll all be absorbed by my creditors of course, but it all brings my Debt Free Date forward.

The phone is unplugged and theres no post tomorrow, so looking forward to a relaxing weekend.

Well I have an update my hubby got a letter re his upping Lloyds credit card from £10.45 which they have happily accpeted and after 18 months never heard from them so with our new lower mortgage payments did a review and offered them £27 something which of course they have turned down!

What pees me off is same day one company who were getting £5 did a review and they now get £5.13 and they happily accepted - so when this is all sorted and I next do a review guess who will be left whistling!

    Hello rugby

I'm so pleased you're starting to feel you're in control, by taking baby steps, we manage to get there in the end.

Good morning everyone - hope the Saturday post has brought good news and not bad?

Afternoon everyone, (late night last night and busy week so sorry for not posting sooner).

Have had a few letters in the post - MBNA saying they appreciate i'm having financial difficulty and have received my income and expenditure form (thanks CCCS:T )....apparently my offer of payment is just too low...well it is an eighth of what my minimum payment had been...they have said I will default if I don't increase the payment and they will assign my debt to a third party (that'll mean some lovely debt collection agency then?)

I would have been really worried but thanks to everyone who posts on here - i've just put the letter in a nice plastic wallet and popped it into my file.

My first payment to CCCS to share amongst all the creditors is at the end of the month so will see what happens then.

Goldfish have apparently been taken over by Barclaycard - so I'm thinking I will need to let CCCS know this when my next statement arrives? That will mean I owe nothing to Goldfish (can pretend i've cleared a debt already :rotfl: ) and a whole lot more to Barclaycard than I did

That's it post wise, though i'm expecting the avalanche next week - my first payment to CCCs can't come quick enough...would love to be a year in the future and feeling more settled.

Rugby, the calculator idea is a great one, went round my local very cheap supermarket the other day - normally go the expensive one and stick it all on my card - had a twenty pound note and a pen and paper and wrote all the prices down - haven't used maths for years!! I actually enjoyed totting everything up and looking for bargains...let's hope I can stick to it.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend and relaxing...

  • Had a couple of letters from my new best friends.....Halifax and MBNA.
Halifax saying that they will accept my reduced payments but won`t be stopping interest for 6 months and then they will default(great another one to add to the club then:j )and MBNA saying that they have defaulted my account and will probably pass it on to a DCA....good then they might actually stop the interest.
Still only HFC have been reasonable and actually bothered to stop interest,if these companies don`t play ball soon then I will CCA them, hope they have fun trying to trace accounts from the 1980`s.
