Didn't think it was Tom, !!!!!! or Harry they led us to believe they were Autotrader who we had already dealt with. Been on to trading standards who say we have a 3 month cooling off period as we hadn't received terms and conditions and they have 30 days to refund the fee. We shall see.

    Thanks for your comments ;)
  • I had the exact same experience over the last few days where i was persistently telephoned about my car-all the same spiel. i did not give them the money and have reported them to watchdog and trading standards and the government fraud department. :T the website info that they provide is fairly convincing, but not very populated. i hope others do not fall victim to these pathetic criminals.
  • I was contacted after placing an advertisement in Auto Trader. Alarm bells rang as it all seemed too good to be true but after several calls throughout the day and a quick look on their website, I went ahead. They are very smooth and convincing. Sleeping on my decision, I decided to trawl the web looking for information and sadly discovered that this nothing more than just a scam. At no time was I given the terms of business regarding distance selling or that you cannot cancel this service. I was however promised that they had three buyers for my car (with authorised finance) i.e. no time wasters and it would be sold almost immediately they put out my details!
I've contacted Barclaycard this morning and have formally registered this as a scam. The payment has been authorised but not processed and if Vehicle World refuse to issue a refund, it will be disputed by Barclaycard.
I am writing letters today to the company, consumer direct, trading standards and any other organisation in a bid to help myself and others to get these companies closed down.

Well, I received a call from "Vehicle World Service" today. Luckily I am suspicious of these things so Iput her off until later today.

Did the usual searches, found this (and other) pages condeming them. Funny thing is, the forums against the company are higher up the Google placeing than the company itself.

I am looking forward to having a chat with them later.

This is the number they called me with.0208 4923932

I bet they won't have read the tinmeshare threads beforehand.... so I wonder how long it'll be before someone who works for VWS registers with MSE and starts claiming they are a brilliant company and managed to sell 2 cars on their behalf above the market value? or some such similar nonsense.

i dont think vehilce world sevices are a scam people just dont seem to read the information pack and T & Cs correctley.

It will be a scam. A company like this was highlighted on Watchdog a few weeks back, only they were contacting people selling houses instead. The scam is the company doesn't have anyone waiting to buy the car/house, they've just made that up to get some money.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

I very nearly got scammed by Vehicle World Services! They went through the same info that they did with everyone else and seemed really convincing. The actual service seemed quite legitamate. As other people have said, these sorts of companies do exist for lots of consumer items. It was only when they asked for money up front that I became a bit suspicious.

I told them I wanted to check out their details before I parted with any cash. That's when I found these postings! I'm really glad I did. I am really mad that they have a lot of my personal details but at least they don't have my card details or money!!!!!!

I was unlucky / careless enough to get scammed by these people too.

I sent them the following letter, and received a cheque around two weeks later.
    Customer Services
    Vehicle World Services
    707 High Road
    Finchley
    London
    N12 0BT
To whom it may concern – regarding receipt ref VWID231927 dated 3/4/08 (copy enclosed)
Under the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 please accept this letter as notice of my decision to make use of the 7 day “cooling off period” and request that my money be returned forthwith.
After taking legal advice, I am informed that your activities fall within the provisions of these regulations and that since I was not informed, in writing, BEFORE accepting the verbal contract that I do not have the right to cancel the email I received that evening stating otherwise is therefore irrelevant.
Furthermore, I am advised that since I was told I was engaging a matching service and not merely placing an advertisement as stated in the receipt there is a reasonable chance that a court would find you were obtaining money by deception. In addition to this, no advert has been placed on your website meaning you are not providing any service whatsoever, much less one fraudulently described. I am advised I have an excellent case against Vehicle World Services, and its directors Christsos Vassou and a C Vassou, both of 220 Waltham Way, Chingford, London, E4 8AW.
Should I not receive complete satisfaction I have every intention of pursuing the matter through the courts where a judgment against you will in all probability result in costs being awarded against you, far exceeding the £99.99 I expect to be refunded shortly.
    Yours sincerely,
  • I too nearly fell for it but luckily checked on google and up came this forum. Their charge has now gone up to £129 for finding you a buyer (or not as the case maybe)
