Here is the address I wrote to

Here is the letter I wrote
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to make a complaint against the service you offer. I received a phone call from one of your sales representatives promising me you had buyers interested in my car. I was told if I paid £99.99, buyers would contact me that night and arrange a viewing on my car. I was told you arrange finance for the buyers and all had been approved for £7300.00 and would I be willing to accept that as an offer on my car. I asked the sales man if I was paying for an advert and he said NO.
I advised yes and like a fool gave you my credit card details for you to take the payment. I heard nothing that night and the following morning when I goggled your company to my surprise I found many websites were people had written reports of your company ripping them off. The same thing had happened to these people where somebody had phoned them up promising buyers would be in contact, took their money and they never heard from the company again. The websites are found are

To my horror, I realised I had been ripped off. I then received a receipt through the post thanking me for placing my advert. I phoned your customer service line and the guy I spoke to told me it was not a scam and I would definitely hear form buyers over the weekend. I heard nothing. I have today phoned and spoken to William Collins who has informed me to write a letter of complaint so I am able to obtain my money back. Luckily, I work as a solicitor and know the law if on my side. You have obtained my money by deception, if you were a legitimate company, your calls would be recorded. I know this is not the case. If I do not receive my money back within 5 days, I will make an official complaint to the Financial Ombudsman and shall issue a claim in the small claims court to recover the cost of my £99.99. Obviously once this happens you will incur cost fees and costs which estimate £198.00 on top.
Please treat this letter with urgency and resolve my complaint as soon as possible. To date I have still not heard from any buyers and to clarify I wish to receive my money back.
Yours Sincerely

Hi,
I just wanted to say thanks to you all.
Since advertising my car on Autotrader less than a week ago, I've had several calls from these kinds of companies. I've lost count of how many. They always made a point of hanging up pretty quickly once I asked them to put their "too good to be true" offers into writing for me. However, this morning I had a call from Vehicle World Services, offering to sell my car for me...
The (very pleasant) man on the phone explained to me that they make their money through the buyer taking out their finance package. As a result, they encourage the buyer to spend as much as possible and that way it's win-win. I get top dollar for my car, they get more interest from the buyer. These buyers come to Vehicle World in order to get a new car quickly, so that would mean a nice quick sale for me. Again, win-win. Ideally buyers would like to see the car in daylight, so would I mind if he sent me a list of terms and conditions via e-mail now (11am) and then rang me back within an hour or two, once I'd read it all? That way, there was a chance of buyers managing to make it out this afternoon! Of course, this set him apart from the rest, in that he'd just volunteered the information that others had declined to provide me with. The e-mail came through, of course, with the name, address, company registration number, etc. of the company. I clicked on the link to their website. All looked good.
Now, I'm a very sceptical person. My view is that "if it sounds too good to be true, it generally is". So of course the first thing I did then was to Google the company, and all this came up. I'd like to think that I wouldn't have gone ahead with this regardless, but you never know, do you? I certainly wouldn't now! But it did surprise (scare?) me a bit, thinking just how professional this whole thing sounded. I can see exactly why so many people get conned, and I wouldn't call them "stupid" at all.
As I say, thank you to everyone, because these people really should be named and shamed.

P.S. That's my phone ringing again... I ignored the first call back at 12:30pm. It's now 1:30pm. I could answer and give them an earful but then they'd know to move onto the next person. This way, they're left wondering, and they have to keep wasting their time trying.0 -
Has anyone come across this one? Placed advert in Autotrader - special deal for 3 weeks. Had a couple of phone calls from other 'agencies' wanting money, saying they had several interested buyers but we told them to go away. However we got a phone call on Monday telling us our deal was coming to an end and they were offering a deal where we could extend the advert until the vehicle was sold for £69. We asked if we could amend the advert and we were told they would ring back the next day to go through it which they didn't.
Checked online for our advert as the fee had been taken to find it wasn't there so rang Autotrader. Long story short it wasn't Autotrader who rang us it was Automart. Rang them as the advert wasn't on their website and we were told to email our complaint, which we did. Meanwhile the advert is now on but not with our phtograph, with a catalogue photo.
Feel we have been ripped off and misled.0 -

How did they get your bank details in order to take their fee - did you give them these details?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Yes, unfortunately. As we thought we were extending our existing advert with Autotrader we didn't think anything of it. If it had been made clear they were a different company we would have told them to go away! What I can't understand is  how can someone extend an advert they haven't got!0

You didn't extend your advert with Autotrader, you placed a new advert with some completely different outfit who managed to fool you into thinking they were Autotrader. What have you learnt from this experience? - never give out your bank details to any Tom, !!!!!! or Harry who calls you and asks for them, no matter who they say they are or what story they spin you."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
When I was selling my car I got almost an identical phone call from another company. I can't remember the name though I'm afraid.
They said they had buyers ready and waiting, if I paid them £150 they would put them directly in contact with me.
I paused then replied saying to the friendly agent that if they put the buyers in touch and they bought the car I would indeed pay them their £150."I'm sorry, we can't do that. It's against our policy as if we put a buyer in touch with you, you could sell your car then not pay us our money."
My reply was:
"Well similarly it's against my policy to pay money to someone when I don't know what it is I'm getting. You might take my money then not provide me with any willing buyers."

~More silence~
I thought it was hilarious!0
