I had not heard about this, is the clip on the internet?

Hiya SAV3R, It was on Look East (East Anglia) Local news the other day, but I missed the beginning of the story. So I went onto the bbc lookeast website and the story and video clip is on their website.

well the court case will be interesting, they brought attention to themselves through stopping his cards, so im wondering if more ppl will come out the woodwork now, or whether hes just an isolated case lol, can just see tesco running everywhere to check those shelves now lol x

I don't have a problem with them removing his points. He was abusing the scheme. 14 cards is unreasonable. He was trying to avoid detection because he knew they wouldn't like it. Well, they don't!

I am a member of PTS too, so I'm all for taking advantage of these bonus points and such - but within reason. I have just the one card. Any more than that and I think you're looking for trouble.

  • No where in Tesco's terms and conditions does it state that you cannot have more than one clubcard if you do so wish. I think there could be many reasons why people have more than 1. Say they mislaid or lost their card, then applied online for a new one and then somewhere down the line say they find the old card under the car seat or something, now they have 2 cards, etc etc. There could be many reasons.

Pure and simple Tesco give an incentive to purchase goods from their stores by doing promtions offering extra points if you buy lets say J&J Talc. So the chap buys hundreds of these with his own hard-earned money because he spots a potential loophole where he would gain more when converted points from his initial cash outlay. So, he racks up thousands of points and they (Tesco's) don't like it. They ban him from the Clubcard Scheme for 'abuse'. That man has purchased these goods based on a promotional incentive, where does it state that by taking them up on there own offers that this is abuse?

What he does with the goods when he's bought them, is nobodys business but his own, whether he gives them away to family/friends or flogs them at a carboot sale to recover his initial outlay. Just because this man has been consumer savvy and played them at their own game they do not like it.

I hope he takes them to the cleaners for amongst other things, defamation of character.

Me? I have one card, and manage around 5000 points per quarter, sometimes more sometimes less. BUT if I had accrued 80,000 points on my one card, I reckon Tesco would have done the same thing and cancelled it. They like to call the shots and do not like it when Joe Bloggs fights back.

Good luck to him, take the corporate giant to the cleaners.

Well I'm sorry, but I have no sympathy for someone who is clearly and knowingly abusing the system. A couple of cards, or virtual accounts, would be fair enough, but 14? Come on.

No, it doesn't. But the T+Cs do state they'll remove your cards if they believe you to be abusing the scheme or dishonest. A person can't honestly believe that 14 cards is an acceptable amount.

Again, they could claim it is their business. In the terms it states
    1. Your Clubcard card and Key Fobs cannot be used for any transaction where the beneficiary is a business and/or the owners of a business.
He may very well be acting as a business by buying and selling on such items.
