In the letter of the law Tesco's is probably in the right (t&c's),but it could score an own goal if customers react badly due to negative publicity.
Makes me wonder how far to push moneysaving too - think this guy may have crossed the line - or maybe not???
What negative publicity? I'm on Tesco's side - this guy is not just abusing the system, he's totally taking the p***!BBC_website wrote:Paul Ryan, from Bedford, collected the points in transactions at Tesco and then sold the goods at car boot sales.0 -
14 clubcards - that is taking the michael for sure. Why would anyone want that many, I have one and that's enough for me
He got caught - he made his money and should move on. Wonder how many nectar cards he's got?0 -
I agree that this guy went way too far with "bending the rules" and that publically broadcasting exactly how he went about it all is likely to shoot us all in the foot.
However Tescos aren't stupid........
They know that they can afford to pay out around 1% of their annual turnover by us converting out CC points into deals.
They also know that as the largest of the supermarket chains they can afford to put the squeeze on when they need to and loosen it when things are going well for them.
Dont get me wrong, I make full use of offers etc, but 14 accounts for one person??

I have to wonder what Martin Lewis thinks of this.0

Wow, surely now he`s told everyone he has earned that much and by admitting he sells on in boot sales etc he will have to declare tax
I think he has gone a step too far and will have probably spoilt it for those amongst us who who actually gain a few extra points here and there.2013 Sealed Pot Challenge Member #1960

How does that work then? If he buys talc at 76p a tub and sells it at a car boot sale for 50p a tub, how much tax would he have to pay? Or are you saying we should all declare our points to the tax man as 4 times their face value if we spend them on Deals?Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in.0 -
What i meant was......you saw the amount of stock he has.....if he sells that as a trader on a boot sale, surely he has to pay tax. Dont they class it as an income.
£15.000 is more than me and Dh earn in a year and we have to pay tax, just like the rest of the country does, why should he get away with it.
He buys-he sells he should pay tax. Do you see what i mean? I know it wont come to that but he is making a living and a decent income out of all this.2013 Sealed Pot Challenge Member #1960

he's not really making money though is he? he's made 15,000 in deals not in money (thats what i gathered) he has to spend alot to sell it. He must have spent like 15000 and just made his cash back at the bootsales its not an income. They are only points that can only be spent on certain items such as holidays etc, and if tescos t&c state they can take away points when they want you couldn't say to mr tax man that 'i might get this many points if they don't take them off me'0 -
Ahhh just watched the clip again.....when the lady asked him `how much have you made from this` and he replied 15k i assumed he`d made that in cash in boot sales selling things on, as well as the points he`d gainned.
Now my original post makes no sense at all:rotfl:2013 Sealed Pot Challenge Member #1960

he did find a loophole, with a scart lead from£19.99 reduced to 99p with 1,000 points so he bought 23 off them, cant blame him really, ............. but 14 cards flip............ and whos name are they in and whos address........i will be debt free, i will0
