I do this with Chicken, ham and bread, a habit inherited from my mum! I never thought about doing it with things like sausages, thanks for the tip!Mortgage as at March 2010 £225,000 target for December 2012 £170,000. You can do the same thing with whole salmon. Supermarkets sometimes sell it very cheaply. Don't miss out on a bargain because you think you won't be able to use a whole fish just slice it (or ask for it to be sliced) into steaks and freeze separately.0

I've been doing this for a few years now. Eapecially with meat. Packs of bacon, sausages, kidney, liver, mince, whole chickens that I joint and freeze separately into family meal size portions. Often the price per kilo is less as the pack size gets bigger in weight, so it saves money to buy the larger ones and split them.
A little tip for anyone that only freezes small portions, but doesnt like using loads of small freezer bags.......If you have enough freezer space, you can freeze things like kidney, liver slices, sausages etc all flat on a tray (just leave a tiny space between each one, so they don't stick together). Then once frozen, pop them in large bags/tubs and you can just take out individual pieces as you need them. It beats hunting for lots of little portions amongst the rest of the freezer stuff0 -
u can freeze mushrooms i never knew that do they come out ok
i throw so many half packs mushrooms away
now tell me u can freeze salad and all my problems are solved lol0 -
im so embarrassed about my freezer...its so full of odds and ends that hadnt been able to "chuck" so its ended up in the freezer. Never thought of freezing celery tho....I also make things like sausage rolls/ meatballs and I freeze those in little portion sizes. Doughnuts etc from the supermarket ( you arent supposed to ) get frozen seperately, that way I get a bit of my shopping treat all through the monthKent Bird!:beer:0

tinkerbellsmum - Yes you can freeze mushrooms. It's better to open freese them on a tray, then put them into a bag. They are not that good for frying (bit like tinned) but fine for putting in stews, bolognese etc.I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
I also freeze mushrooms and they keep fine. I also freeze all my bread and bread rolls and just take out what I need the night before. I freeze all my veg. Keeping old margarine pots are great for using to chop things into. Even buy my onions and chop and freeze and have saved loads of money used to also throw loads of stuff away. Not now lolsw start date 23/09/2013 4 st 8 pounds to go....as of 21/10/13 not 3 stone 7 to go for first target. updated 18/11/13 now 2 stone 10lbs to go to first target.0

I often buy ready grated cheese because it seems to be the one thing that is cheaper ready processed (probably because the use the ends they couldn't sell). However Morrisons had some blocks of mature cheddar on special offer at a good price this week so I grated the whole block as soon as I got home and spread it out on a baking tray and froze it like that. Then I put it in an old bread bag and it stayed free running so I can just get a bit out when I need it. I like mature cheddar because you get more flavour for fewer calories and fat so I will probably do this some more as the ready grated stuff is quite bland tastingIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Weve been doing this for a while now. We go to Morrisons at 7pm when things get reduced then freeze everything. Last week we got 2 cream cakes reduced from £2.39 to 39p each. I slice then freeze and get them out when the family call. Rolls are bought reduced then popped in the oven from the freezer for 10 minutes so its like fresh crusty rolls. Donuts in the oven for 10 minutes - lovely. Quiche, pasties or anything reduced that we eat gets frozen. All veg sliced, diced and frozen. Hate paying full price for anything now:rolleyes:
