I sometimes grate my excess courgettes and freeze like that (open freeze on a tray and then bag up so you can remove only as much as you want in the future).
Although they do go mushy and soggy, they are still perfectly fine for turning into soup, moistening cake or bulking out vats of mince based meals all through the winter.
We might be sick of courgettes by the end of August, but it is so nice having access to it occasionally through the colder months.0 -
Sorry, posted this in a thread on its own before noticing that this one existed
I've got a ridiculous glut of lettuce in the garden (first year veg grower who should have read the advice about staggering the planting a bit more thoroughly) and have been thinking about what to do with them.
I've made lettuce soup before but I remember it as being quite delicate & fresh and would worry it might lose its flavour if I froze & re-heated it - has anyone frozen it successfully?
And, if I shouldn't freeze it, what on earth else can I do with 15 lettuces?!? :rotfl:
thank you in advance for any tips!0 -

Hi sparklysaver
I've frozen lettuce soup before with no problems or change in taste. This thread might give you ideas for other ways to use it:
Can I do anything else with lettuce other than salad?

Just wondering...has anyone attempted to freeze any leftover takeaways?
I have frozen pizza slices from well known pizza delivery specialists.
Makes for nice little ready snacks!
Any odd ones, leftover burger meals maybe?
btw I know its not v good moneysaving for takeaways, :shhh: but when a good offer comes on that you can't refuse, I have been tempted - its a v occasional treat!

I personally would never freeze a takeaway because I wouldn't know if any part of it had been already frozen or reheated.Dum Spiro Spero0

lol... i am not the person to ask! Everyone i know tells me off cos i am such a wimp that i won't ever save left over chinese/indian takeaway in fridge and reheat the next day lol!! I know it is wimp-ish but i worry about like last poster mentioned how many times they have reheated it before it gets to me!
I supposed with pizza it would depend on what the topping was. Chicken etc i probably wouldnt... maybe if it was just veg and beef, pepperami etc i might?Baldrick, does it have to be this way? It never occurred to me about the possible already frozen/reheat of an ingredient...maybe I won't be doing it again anytime soon.
Thankfully I am a pepperoni lover!0 -
There would never be any takeaway left here to freeze it!
We do eat left over pizza over the course of about 2 days after it's been delivered, same with curry, i just nuke it in the microwave. (just finished last night's left overs!)Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
