Could somebody advise on the following:
I have a wedding pre-arranged in Poland. My Mum would naturally love to attend and pre-booked tickets, but as my Father recently passed away has been told she needs to sign on to JSA. If she does not sign on she loses her other benefits (housing etc) at a cost of about £1,000 per month. If she does sign on, she cannot leave the country.
My questions are this:
1) Can I argue that my human rights are affected, in that I have a right to a family life, and surely one expects parents to be at a wedding?
2) If I cannot, and the JSA stops, do all other benefits stop also?
3) If they do stop, how long do they stop for (she is due to be away for 4 days). Would it just be 4 days or would it be ~ 6 weeks until she re-signs on. Potentially if everything stopped for 6 weeks this would be at a loss of £1500.00..!
It all seems very silly and unfair really.
I'd love some objective wisdom.0 -

I've read other posts that suggest it's entirely possible to 'sign off' JSA for the time someone will be abroad and make a rapid re-claim on return.
If someone is abroad on holiday they are not entitled to claim JSA because they are not actively seeking work.
Don't try claiming your Human Rights are somehow being violated...they're not.0 -

Your points seem rather silly and unfair. And difficult to follow. Where does the away for four days equal six weeks come from? It is, of course, only JSA she will not receive for the four days she is abroad (or for the number of days between last turning up at the job centre and when she returns to it).
Why can she 'not leave the country' if she signs on? Of course she can.
The only complication is if she is leaving in a day or three - then she may well not be able to register till she comes back - but that would be one week, not six. Where does six weeks come from?
If she is leaving in a week or three then she just tells the person when first applying.
Housing benefit and council tax will be paid if out of the country (for a holiday).0 -
Voddyman can i ask how long before you went away he was told he had to sign off??0

If you sign off while you are abroad you should also go to the council offices before you go and tell them your income for the period you are away will be zero, this is so they don't charge you council tax or stop your HB because the dole office will tell them you're not claiming JSA anymore.0

Getting job seekers allowances because you are looking for work only counts In the UK if you go out side for a foreign holiday you technicaly have to sign of and once back sign back on a rapid reclaim form that takes three to four days thanks to online otherwise go on holiday if when you get back you have a letter saying you should be here on soon so date your money is stopped wait thirteen weeks or ring up on the morning of flight and say you are very ill note they may ask for a doctors note0

You're suggesting lying to the Jobcentre and your GP?
Wow, just wow!0 -
I'm in a situation where my sign on day is next Tuesday, I go away for 3 weeks on the Friday (I booked a big holiday a long time ago before I got made redundant!). I already informed the job centre of this holiday when I started claim.
If I inform adviser again on Tuesday does that mean I will not receive any benefit for the last two weeks? Or if I sign off on Tuesday will they pay me up until that day? Printing money since 2008 :beer:0 -
You should be paid this fortnight as normal, then you can tell them you will be signing off as of the Friday and you should be paid for those two or three days as well.Debt on 25/5/17
