The last time someone did this to me I wrote on their windscreen in lipstick that they were illeagally parked and I had a photograph and had logged times and their number plate and that this offence had been reported to the police and the dvla I never saw them again

Criminal damage - nice approach, good job it was not my car as you would have got a bill for the cleaning and for a hire car whilst mine was off the road getting the grafitti removed as well as reported to the Police.

Not advocating criminal damage but if someone does park over your drive.....your keys, their car door......:shhh:

    lol made me giggle anyways!
  • be careful about letters you put on a windscreen. I parked on a private road (had permission from the landowner, road only has 3 houses on it and is kept by the stud farmer whom ive known for years) anyway was visiting him for the day and helping with the horses and returned to my car to find a "police" notice telling me they had took my veh reg etc - then the man came out shouting at me that i had parked illegally and he worked for nottingham police blah blah blah (private road, different rules wasnt illegal as had permission and wasnt blocking anything) so after that i got him done for impersonating a police officer - he moved house soon after as bill (who owns the land his house is on) made him lol

We specifically bought a house with a driveway because we didn't want street parking. Ever since we have lived here, people have continually parked in front of the driveway. What annoys me the most is there is a parking laybay outside the houses, so why do people continue to park in front of an open driveway, which is use frequently throughout the day. Then when you find the person, the abuse you get is unbelivable.

If they block you in then you can call the police who will issue a parking ticket / highway obstruction.

    there, do it

Why do that? There is nothing illegal about parking on a verge unless there is a TRO or a bylaw stopping it, if neither exits then you can park there i the vehicle is not over 3.5t mgw. We have a neighbor who trys to stop people parking on a verge outside his house, just because he has a drive and the majority of us do not, we have cars parked outside our house, as do most of our neighbours, I have lost count of the number of arguments him and his misses have lost on the subject, even had the head of our local highways authority round and asked him to show me the law which prevents it and he could not, nor could the Police who were called once!!! :rotfl:

my father in law had a police officer come to his house one sunday when we were visiting and advised him that it was a £30 on the spot fine for parking on the verge, my fil had only done this as we were parked on the driveway,

I agree with others though, its horrible looking out onto white vans etc.

Our town is full of white van drivers who also think its appropriate to park on the pavement to deliver their goods as the road has double yellow lines on it

Would writing with lipstick count as criminal damage? I'm not sure it would, as it would just wipe off - no damage done.

I would say it still does, paint thrown on a window could be argued that it could scrape off with time n vigor.a graffitti artist for example, could argue that his motif can be washed off a wall with the right materials. Pretty weak for lip stick, but still under the eyes of the law. (personally, a brick would be more effective than the lip stick ;))

  • Hi - I wonder if anyone could offer any advice please. We have an ongoing parking dispute with our neighbour. There is an alleyway seperating our houses which apparently belongs to both of us. We park one of our carsoutside of our house but it blocks the alleyway by less than half the entrance. The alleyway only leads to our back garden and hers but there is plenty of access from the entrance and also from her drive and ours. SHe has rang the police several times about us parking there and the community safety wardens that have visited us can't tell me if we are breaking the law or not. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

If it's a pedestrian access only then provided you are not onstructing pedestrian access, then there is no offence. Check on your house deeds and there should be a covenant or similar stating what access alleyway has (on older properties usually states something like, 'must allow room for a handcart to pass and repass').

As far as other parking probs on this thread:

    Parking on a verge:
Offence is 'driving elsewhere than on a road'
    Obstructing driveway:
    Offence is 'unneccessary obstruction'

In first case police have powewr to ticket, In second, police have power to ticket and tow away!
