I haven't read all the posts and I don't have this problem luckily but I can't believe people actually do this??!!! Have they not got 2 brain cells to rub together??? What if they have blocked you in and you have an emergency to go to? My dad is on a bleeper system as a firefighter......what would happen if they block his drive? What if they block my drive and my baby starts to make an appearance? I Can't believe some people!!!
Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

There are three types of people in the world, those who can add up and those who can't.

Yep those are my main points. My father recently passed away and I often thought when these sh*ts blocked me in "what If I have to dash Immediately to tend to dad":confused:

Trouble is Kitch it isn't JUST that they are stupid - it's also that they don't care a hoot :mad::mad:
Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
    Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying
  • Yep!

And they seem to love to treat you like a complete Neanderthal if you have the nerve to say a word!

In one area of Essex the police are going to get tough with parents who park across driveways, on pavements and on the zig-zags of crossings while outside schools. They have threatened that if somebody is caught twice doing this they will have their cars confiscated.

    news story here :-

  • I saw someone park on a pedestrian crossing the other day - couldn't believe it! It was a really flash, bright orange car - seemed like the sort of show off who thought they could do whatever they wanted!

In our town we haven't had any parking wardens for two years. This is because the police gave up this task, and the council employed ones are not starting till next month. This means we have had a free-for-all in the town. Drivers park on double yellow lines, on pavements and anywhere else they like. What makes it worse it that the streets in the town centre are quite narrow, thus stopping delivery and emergency vehicles getting through.

We have plenty of car parks in town but it seems that people are too lazy to walk those few extra yards. The worst offenders seem to be the big 4 X 4s and expensive cars like BMWs and Jaguars. So they cannot use the excuse they cannot afford the parking fees. As I said these people are in for a rude shock next month when they find that their poor parking habits are going to be punished.

I drive a 4x4, I NEVER park illegally or block peoples drive & I hate drivers who park on pavements with a passion.

I didn't say every 4X4 driver did this, just that quite a few of them seem to do that.

Our avenue has only a few driveways, mainly on street parking.
One of the people who have a driveway has painted his own white lines on the road, but not just covering the width of his driveway, he has taken a bit more each side, is this legal.
I had some an electrician doing some work for me, who had parked his car near this driveway and his bumper was just over the white lines, well my neighbour came round with an attitude threatening to call the police, etc, what should be my reply to him if this happens again?

We have exactly the same. Our neighbour has a drive, we do not, he has had lines painted on the road but they overlap the drop curb by well over a meter either side. I just ignore them and park right up to the dropped curb, the white lines mean absolutely nothing, they are for guidance only, it needs a Road Traffic Order for there to be parking restrictions. So the white lines have no standing in the road traffic act (I am lead to believe).

Veering slightly off-topic, but may I ask for opinions? Near my house is an alley down the side of an end-of-terrace - properties on one side, garages on the other. I often pull up slightly into this passageway (there is a drop-kerb there) then reverse out, just for turning round to then park outside my house.

New owner of said end-of-terrace has taken to parking his "white van" right up to the drop kerb - not blocking access, but his rear bumper is level with the end of the drop kerb.

This makes turning IN to the alley a bit tricky, but visibility when reversing out is now seriously impaired. Same would hold for anyone driving forwards out. (He's also occasionally parked his *car* right up to the OTHER end of the drop kerb, really hemming it in.)

So - is this illegal? (I have vague recollections from the Highway Code of restrictions of parking within 25 (15?) yards of a junction, but could be wrong and am not sure if this would count as a junction.) I'm going to ask politely if he could stop doing this, but would I have any legal grounds to *demand* he do so, if push came to shove?

    Thanks!
