I came home at 5.00 pm tonight and couldn't park in front of door- someone visiting had parked there. Parked in communal area - not a problem. No great shopping to lug over and no issue. Just will need to walk further in morning to go to work!

However, our neighbours with 2 cars will come and knock on door if they can't park at their door. They once sat fuming whilst I decanted 3 DGSs for 2 minutes parked at their door before parking up elsewhere. Youngest DGS was about 10 months at the time and needed lifted in!

We have no rights over the road as it is Council adopted but do try and respect parking outside individual homes. This is almost as bad as road rage - parking rage?

I drive a 4x4, I NEVER park illegally or block peoples drive & I hate drivers who park on pavements with a passion.
Yeah well I ride a motorbike and I've yet to have someone believe me when I say I never exceed the speed limit!! (I do not). You just have to put up with it!

I didn't realise how lucky we are! Our new flat is a downstairs converted flat and the lady upstairs always leaves the drive unobstructed! Also in my mum's road I have never ever seen this happen... maybe that's because it's Surrey <insert over generalised cultural stereotype of southern england>.

what annoys me in my road is people that drive on the grass verge as we have had a letter from the council saying that it is the responsibliy of the home owners, and we can be issued with a fine

but its when those people that park on the grass don't live there and can potentially cause a fine for those that do

also, its annoying when as the road is bowed, cars and vans that park with 2 wheels on the kirb or grass and 2 on road , so their car in balanced. why do people do that?

You need to put rocks along the edge of the grass. Two friends of mine have grass verges near their houses and they have rocks on the grass to prevent people parking fully or partially on the grass.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

No would not be able to do that, it is after the pavement
how do i explain: you have your house, and then pavement and then grass which is either side of your shared drive way. some grass have trees

its when the vans park 2 of their wheels on there that it damages the grass

and there are like 300 houses in the road

Why do that? There is nothing illegal about parking on a verge unless there is a TRO or a bylaw stopping it, if neither exits then you can park there i the vehicle is not over 3.5t mgw. We have a neighbor who trys to stop people parking on a verge outside his house, just because he has a drive and the majority of us do not, we have cars parked outside our house, as do most of our neighbours, I have lost count of the number of arguments him and his misses have lost on the subject, even had the head of our local highways authority round and asked him to show me the law which prevents it and he could not, nor could the Police who were called once!!! :rotfl:

I also have cars & vans that park half on the grass verge and half on the road in front of my house. I have ussues with this:

    1. It spoils the view from my front window - do I really want to have to look at some ugly white van? Selfish I know, but it annoys me anyway.
    2. Parking like this has ruined the grass on the verge - it is now just dirt. Again this spoils the look and appearance of my house.
    3. However the 2 previous point pale into significance with the main issue and that is the blocking of the view of the road when attempting to leave my drive. This is especially difficult when a van parks half on, half off. Often I am almost half way across the road before I can see if there are any cars coming. My road is supposed to be 30mph, but no-one it would seem is keen to stick to this limit and we have cars come belting past our house. So this combination of difficulty seeing what is coming and the excess speed of cars is going to lead to a nasty accident one day:mad:

My latest plan is to try and sow some new grass seed on the verge to try and restore it to its former glory. Obviously while the grass seed is growing I will have to cordon off the area - I thought of using the red & white tape that you see around road works.
  • you can purchase some white plastic bollards from the highyways dept , they are about 2ft high you dig a hole and put them at reasonable distances. do not use rocks if a CAR IS DAMAGED YOU ARE LIABLE .
i had a problem outside my house ie postie parking his van on the grass verge makes an awfull mess i put rocks there it did the trick but 6 months on the highways agency called and asked me to move them as a car had come on the verge and damaged it tyres .
i told them why they were there thats when they said we have some white bollards which are legal and can be put in place now no postie churning up the grass there whit so safty has been adressed .
  • I do not know a law that prevents bad parking, but blasting the horn as I drive out it the morning had the desired effect. Two inconsiderate neighbours now park in the alloted bays after some of us gave them a good rousing!
