Parking in front of driveways

  • Our avenue has only a few driveways, mainly on street parking.
One of the people who have a driveway has painted his own white lines on the road, but not just covering the width of his driveway, he has taken a bit more each side, is this legal.
I had some an electrician doing some work for me, who had parked his car near this driveway and his bumper was just over the white lines, well my neighbour came round with an attitude threatening to call the police, etc, what should be my reply to him if this happens again?

Let him call the police - they won't do anything, no one's commited an offence. Just make sure no one is actually blocking him in and there should be no problem.

If he's painted the lines in himself, I'm sure the local council would like to know!

  • Thanks for that, i have just emailled the local council.
Just hope they don't divulge my details!!!!
  • Grr, we have trouble with people parking across our drive.

Sooooo rude. It really does my head in.

We live right near a school and I've lost track of the amount of times that I've been late for work because some moron has decided that they just need to park over my driveway.

  • Yep, but they never seem to get there quick enough!

I have quite a steep driveway, and this one woman ALWAYS used to park there, kept saying something and she eventually started parking opposite the drive. It's difficult to get the purchase to get off the drive at that angle, and I once accidentally drove back and smashed her wing mirror.. Shame I didn't notice :)

An aquaintance of mine lived near a school and was very annoyed to return from work one day to find a parent had parked in her driveway! She waited for the parent to arrive and asked her not to do it again - and was met with the usual abuse and swearing.

She asked the local police what to do - and they suggested blocking the parent in, which she did the next time they parked there.

The irate parent then came banging on the door, swearing and cursing that they had been blocked in and that they would call the police to have the resident's car towed away. This they did, and the police arrived, said there was nothing they could do as it wasn't the homeowner's car that had been blocked in, and asked the homeowner if they would like to press charges for trespass against the parking parent!

The parent never parked there again! :rotfl:

Surprised nobody has mentioned the most obvious thing to do. Depending on how badly they've blocked your driveway, why not park 1mm from their nose, and get your OH or neighbour to park 1mm from their tail. Nothing illegal in it surely? They won't be going anywhere and will have to wait until you decide to move one of the cars.
  • Ha, done that too :D
