Just an update. Had a second survey on 18th Jan - this time by the insulation company. Insulation carried out on 1st Feb. Pretty good although they missed a bit. Done at no cost to me so can't complain.
Still waiting for reply to my letter dated 30/9/05 about the monthly payment even though I have sent two reminders. Does anybody know if I can claim the £20 which energy suppliers are supposed to pay if they don't reply to queries within ten days.

We've been with staywarm for over four years now and have seen the prices rise from £38 to £68 per month and with each rise we have taken the readings and compared cost with the so called cheapest suppliers. It has always been cheaper to remain with Staywarm. Lets hope this continues when our next revue is due in June.
There are two of us oldies living in a 3 bed semi in Devon and, as Margaret said, we go away for about 8 weeks each year to see grandchildren. But we still find it cheaper to use Staywarm.

Hope this helps to put the other side of the story.
Life in the old dog yet? :hello:
(I used to look like this, but it was a long time ago!)

Thanks for that. My mum is 72 living on her own in London and I have accurate record of her usage. Staywarm will be £100 cheaper than any other provider and she is happy with the certainty of no suprise bills. the rises people are referring to on this forum aren't that bad compared to what all the other companies are doing.
  • On checking out the PDF file on Staywarm I notice that prices are for 27/9/05.Since then there has been increase of 3.5% on prices here for South of Scotland. It quotes £14.80 but price is now £15.30 per week. That is price at January 2006.Was wondering if that is same increase all over the different areas as shown on file

Here is latest news I,ve heard about Staywarm.
Hi Charlie, Staywarm are no longer basing their quotes on the published grid that they have on their leaflets, apparently each request is now calculated individually.
Sorry it has taken so long to provide you with this ridiculously vague answer - but it has been hard to pin them down to anything.
    hope you are well
    kind regards

For anyone joining or leaving please be aware that when your (final) bill comes they bill you in whole month amounts irrespective of what day of the month you joined and what day of the month you leave. E.g. you could join in mid November and leave in mid November of the following year and be billed for 13 monthly payments even though they have only supplied you for the equivalent of 12 months.

So, if you are thinking of joining try to arrange a switch date on or shortly after 1'st of a month.

And if you are leaving try to arrange a switch date close to the end of a month.

I am leaving Staywarm and the date of my direct debit is 24th of the month.

When is it best to cancel, from what I remember they took payment in advance. I joined them on 24th December 2003, and I think I paid a payment on that date, cannot check my bank statements because I sent them a cheque for at least the 1st 2 payments as they messed up my Direct Debit.
Do I need to phone them to cancel or do I just choose another supplier?

I will be paying again on 24th March so as far as I can see it that will pay for my consumption in March and I should not have to pay again if I cancel in the next few days. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Also I can not find Staywarm tarriff on any of the comparison sites, and are the comparison sites showing the up to date prices with so many recent increases?

Go too page 1 of this thread and there is pdf file you can download although prices on it are for sept 2005.Also there is no comparison sites that tell you Staywarm prices so you have to ring them to find out.Starting too look like a big con trick as far as I can see.I,m with them again after having problems with erroneous transfer and although thats sorted out they still have made mistake with my contract with them as in contract it says just too pay £5.90 per week.Although I,ve managed to get someopne with bit of brain and she sent me letter to say just pay £10 per week then next week i get another contract again saying my payments are £5.90.So gave up phoning them and as I do know I should be paying £15.30 per week as 2 neighbours got their new contacts in January and I,m in same size house and single and thats what they pay.So although I,m paying £10 per week I,m putting another £5 by on saving stamps as no doubt they will eventually get round to see their mistake. When they do get round too it I will lead them a merry dance as I,ve got the 2 contracts saying £5.90 and wonder what Energwatch would say too that

Remember that it takes a minimum of about 5 weeks to switch to a new supplier (1 week "cooling off" period plus 4 weeks notice to the old supplier) so I would suggest signing with a new supplier 5 to 6 weeks before the end of a month. My experience with Staywarm was they billed whole months only, so you may be lucky and get 24'th-31'st December free.

I signed up yesterday for London Energy, working on my last 12 months meter readings I will save £256 and that is with the same usage as this year, and I have not cut back on my consumption, because it was not costing me anymore, I could probably save even more by being more carefull with my usage. I will cancel my direct debit when I get a date and let them ask me for a cheque if I owe them anything.
  • I have a real problem with staywarm - they have refused to send me any bills since I joined. When the electricity readers come they refuse to read the meter as it is the corner of my wall and they would need a ladder to read it (against health and safety rules naturally!) and as I am a wheelchair user I cannot read it. I also have a problem with paying - the only accessible post office is now inaccessible (got a massive newspaper stand in middle which they refuse to move) and I dont trust them to take the money by direct debit as when I first signed up they took a whole years payment in one go! They also refuse to have the common courtesy to get my name correct on the payment card! Im a single parent and a student so when they suddenly sent me a letter saying I owed them £3000 in April, I told them I couldnt pay it all at once but would be willing to pay £10 per month plus the normal fee, if they would accept standing order or cheque. They won't! My kids are too young to go in and pay with my credit card at the post office and I don't have anyone else trustworthy to do it - so I am stuck!
I would love to change supplier, but cant get a reading of my electricity numbers so what am I supposed to do?
Any ideas appreciated (2nd time of posting thread - hope it is put on website this time!)
