Staywarm never send 'a bill' to anyone. The amount you pay is pre-determined on an annual basis - a yearly contract - and it matters not how much energy you use during that period. I think I've had my gas meter read once, and electric twice in the three years I've been with Staywarm.Watch out for the sandbag.0 -
hi youthworker2b
you quote-cant get a reading of my electricity numbers -so have you tried getting someone from social services to come and read them for you as up here in glasgow they have what is called a Handyperson service for things like that and other things folk cant manage0 -
Im a single parent and a student so when they suddenly sent me a letter saying I owed them £3000 in April, I told them I couldnt pay it all at once but would be willing to pay £10 per month plus the normal fee, if they would accept standing order or cheque. They won't! My kids are too young to go in and pay with my credit card at the post office and I don't have anyone else trustworthy to do it - so I am stuck!
I would love to change supplier, but cant get a reading of my electricity numbers so what am I supposed to do?
Any ideas appreciated (2nd time of posting thread - hope it is put on website this time!)
Do you actually owe them £3000? If you do it wouldn't suprise me if they refused to take £10 a month payments as the balance would take over 10 years to pay off.
They accept cheques so I don't see what the issue with that is.
Staywarm don't send out bills as mentioned its a pre-determined amount and is there not any friends or neighbours that could take a reading for you? You can still change your supplier just ask the new supplier to arrange for one of there meter readers to come out and read it for you. Explain your cicumstance and I'm sure they would arrange that for you.0 -
RE Staywarm,
A friend of mine tried them today and he was quoted £60.38 per month and that was for 1 bedroom flat, one person in Glasgow.Has anyone else got prices for 2 bedroom one in Glasgow(me) as although I,m with them just now was wondering what latest price would be as its £15.30 just now0 -
I am going to be helping a friend leave Selfwarm. The only thing that bothers me is the charge by Staywarm for the final part month.
The matter has been covered by Graham1 very fully and, while I have absolutely no reason to doubt what he has said, it would be useful to hear the experience of others who have left Staywarm. Particularly as Graham1 was 'gifted' several days free!
My friend is due to pay £88 per month following the August review which is ridiculous (20,000 KwH Gas : 3,500 KwH Electricity) and a transfer to EDF's Online tariff (fortunately available to us in the Norweb area) saves him (by my reckoning) over £30 per month.
If it was simply a matter of getting a refund of the final month's payment (which is paid in advance apparently) for the unused days to the end of the charging period, then that would be fine. But it's the prospect of him paying twice for the overlapping period, especially at £88 per month, that I'm afraid of. I would tackle it differently if was my fuel I was switching - but I don't want to let him down and have him face an unfair double charge.
Timing changes of supplier is impossible to time accurately and it becomes a bit of a lottery. I personally set off to change on 2/11/05 and I was switched to electricity on 26/11 and gas on 8/12. So even if you get one right you don't necessarily get the other!
Thanks in advance for any 'experiences' that would help.

Either Powergen do not want new customers for the Staywarm system or they are trying to con the over 60's!
Firstly they would not deal with me by e-mail.
Subsequently I was given an estimate of over £92 per month dual fuel for an approximately 70 sq metre 2 bed flat in the ne of Scotland.
This is a ludicrously high figure!
Given this and the bad publicity over the Staywarm system they have received recently, I consider them a bad proposition.0 -
I read Martin's tips last week and rang Powergen not expecting to get a positive response. After many questions they told me I could save £24 month on a dual account for gas and elec., reducing my bill from £116 per month to £92 - that is for a three bedroomed house with 2 residents. That is worth it over a year. We will see what happens then and if the price does go up unreasonably I am sure Martin will have other tips by then. Thanks Martin very much0

As parents are with British Gas who have messed up their bills in a big way for the 2nd time in 2 years due to a not needed meter change I tried to get an estimate from Staywarm.
I have figures for their annual usage. British Gas have not read elec meter in 2 years so bill not accurate. I can only average a years elec usage based on 2 year reading.
However Staywarm could only give me a quote if I gave them the last bill amount. I said how is that relevant if the gas usage is seasonal and the electric bill is based on estimations. I can give a year in KWH.
No, she could not proceed unless I gave her details from last bill.
So I don't think I want to go with a company that can't use common sense.0 -
very shortly there are going to be announces regarding stay warm...big announces. it will now become consumption based for consumers who use too much. Not sure when press release will be but trust me!!!
As i now no longer work for powergen...:( this has come from a valuable source. Anybody who has been identified as a high user will now pay quite a lot of money compared to their previous stay warm price. apparently prices for some have risen by over 65 %... over £800 per year!!
good luck stay warm customers. more so those due for renewal from now and on0
