    Guys can I have your opinion on something?

    As you know my little girl has all manner of special needs. And in many ways we try to treat her as normally as possible. But, just lately her older sister is spending her pocket money pretty earrings and the like from Claires. Now, Amber is a real girly pink girl and she wants what her sister has.

    She's figured out that Jas has holes in her ears to put things in, but she doesn't. She's become totally obsessed by it and tonight sobbed her little heart out because her clip on ones keep falling off.

    I really don't know what to do, I can't explain to her that it'll hurt, I've tried, she just says she wants holes. If I did take her I'm not sure we'd end up with 2 ears pierced because she'd realise it hurts then. On the other hand, does she have the right to choose this for herself?

    I know all things considered this is a really small problem, but that's life with a special needs child, little things can become major issues.

    What do you think?

    Just a thought but when my friend's daughter had her ears pierced she didnt want to go throught with it so had her ears done both at the same time! This was done in Claires and they were quite happy to do this, may help as she will only have the one suprise.
  • Toto, my cousin's daughter had her ears pierced at Claires Accessories and they did them both together so the pain was only felt once .... I think that sounds like a better way to do it. My DD wants hers done this summer and I'm taking her there!

    laura, sorry that the pregnancy test result wasn't what you wanted :(

    Thanks, I'll ask about that, sounds like a better way of doing it. I've spoken to her beloved respite carer who suggested that we both take her, which is a lovely idea. She said that Amber had been on about holes for weeks and it was driving her potty so it does seem like the best thing to do.

    :mad::mad:

    I am so CROSS with people who are suppose to be impartial blatently abusing their authority :mad:

    I KNOW I'm no angel and should learn to bite my tongue with trolls and stupidites BUT I resent being made to look like a t**t when in fact (I think) I'm actually pretty helpful.

    Childish behaviour akin to ranting down the phone, hanging up then refusing to answer just gets on my t***

    Sorry ~ rant over :o

    toto: big hugs to your girl ~ your post made me cry (doesnt take much though ;)), I wish they didnt have to grow up and fwiw I think you should let her have them done, if she changes her mind after the first then she just gets to have a different (ergo better) look than everyone else :grin:

    IA: any news on FIL?

    Toto, will your daughter find having her ears bathed upsetting? As that may be a way to avoid any infection if she's a twiddler?
  • I work with special needs adults. Anaesthetic gel (on prescription - Amitop and there's another one I can't remember name) which numbs the area for an hour or so is used when they need to have injections or blood tests. Don't know if your GP would support you in prescribing that for your daughter - I'd say it was a need on the basis of Every Disabled Child Matters - eg inclusion/choice/independence etc. just a thought.
