If you are happy with her having her ears pierced Toto, maybe take her along to Claires to watch someone else have it done first. I had mine re-pierced in there 2 or 3 years ago and there was a very scared looking girl with her Mum watching me. I told her it was fine and it was just like a little pinching feeling for a second and she seemed to brighten up.

Maybe try seeing how she reacts if you play let's pretend? And use your thumb and finger to quickly press on her earlobe?

although, as I have no children, I could well be talking absolute drivel!

Oh goodness Toto, what a dilemma. You know her better than anyone hun, what's your gut feeling?

If she had one done and then had a meltdown and couldn't have the other done, could you live with her just having one for a while?

Quite young kids have it done, and I suppose they haven't got any real understanding of 'it's going to hurt' either, although I know it's for a different reason.

It's a really difficult one, and I don't think there's a right or wrong answer.

(I've taken so long to type this you've probably already decided, walked to the shop, had her ears, belly button and tongue pierced and are back home with a cup of tea :o)

thanks guys. I just had a chat with her support worker who knows her really well. She seems to think I should let her. I'm going to do a story board so she understands what happens and as cruel as this sounds, pinch her ears slightly when we look at it, so she understands some of how it might feel. I'll also go and get some emla cream from the doctors.

I don't mind if she just has one done, I'm more worried about her fiddling with it and getting an infection. But I guess I need to get used to the idea that she's getting older now and will want to make some choices.

I'll probably go during half term. Thanks for listening, your opinions help a lot :)

snaggles.........i hope stu is ok and calmed down by now i'm sure a hug from his lovely wife helped.

IA..... i hope your fil is ok and i will look out for news later.

toto..... i have never really 'spoke' to you but i just wanted to say i totally understand your dilemma with amber and her earrings you know her better than anyone but for what its worth if thats what she wants then why not. my 15 yr old son has downs and he wants and mentions quite often he wants a tattoo and a beard i know its quite funny and i did giggle but he doesnt understand he has to wait until hes older etc etc he just sorta said 'i dont care want tattoo' !!!!!! do i say to that:rotfl: least i have an age issue excuse to say no even though if he was able he would just go and get one but when hes older if thats what he wants is it my right to not allow him??????

on other news after reading recommendations on the banks board about natwest i thought a solo card would be fab so i went into a branch today and applied for a 'step' account ....i nearly fell off my chair when she said its offering you a cheque book guarantee card etc etc  i asked her 3 times i think she thought i was mad but like a good girl i said no thankyou my local asda and tescos dont take cheques anymore anyway if i find a solo is a bit limiting then i think i will ask for the maestro or whatever its called but we shall see.
hope everyone else is well i will finish reading todays goss quickly

Hi Sally - no, at the Adult Ed. centre in Poole. It is 10 weeks (I think) every Tuesday night for 3 hours starting in April. If I pass (it is a City and Guilds) there is a second half to it but I think from reading the form I have to have found 30 hours of teaching to progress.

It's a big leap of confidence for me. Won't bore you but I had a really bad experience at work and I was basically shot to pieces (not literally I hasten to say!!) and my confidence and general confidence to walk outside the front door was very low.

I'll be terrified if I get selected - although I don't know why - it's hardly a firing range I'll be up against!

I want to teach cookery classes to adults (or anyone really) so I'm going to give it a go.

Thats fab for you, and good on you for moving things along. Im sure you will be accepted...why wouldn't they pick someone like you, hey. I definately think there is a need for cookery classes too so you could be onto a good little money maker there!

    Good luck
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Sorry if I bring you all down but...

I've not had a good day today I was all happy and positive and then my boss told me they had been looking at me internet use at work and it was high and i now have to have a disaplinary with HR. I am terrified and want to cry. I know it's my own fault for using the net at work, but I don't know what I am going to to.

I can't afford to be out of work and this is stressing me out so much!! I hoping that I will be offered the other job tomorrow. But what happens if not?

I feel like I am taking 2 steps forward and 4 back!!!

I only had one ear pierced when I first had mine done at 5, it took a bar of chocolate and 2 hours of persuading to get the other one done. I was shown a lovely set of earrings where the two were different but a set (a sun and moon) and decided I wanted both in my ears so let them do the other one. Might work as a backup. I had them re-done at 7 and a 2nd set of holes and didn't even flinch.
I think I scared myself. The anticipation was worse, so her not being aware of the full pain might be a blessing in disguise.
