Hmm, I did make kefir a while ago but found it tasted awful ! I would leave it at room temp all day then strain out the grains and refridgerate at night before drinking in the morning and starting over. How do you make it more palatable?0

sometimes it'll be nicer than others, but I put that down to different temperatures & it being riper (a bit too ripe that is!) sometimes
I notice on the cheese site they talk about changing the qualities of the kefir depending on how you treat it, I was going to have a proper look at it tonight as my techinique's always been a bit hit & missso there might be some answers there
it has to be said that I think it is a bit of an aquired taste, I'm ok with it, but then I love plain yogurt & I think that helps, but even so the fizziness can be a bit of a shock!
did you ever try making smoothies with it? that's supposed to be very nice0 -

Thanks zippychick!
Swan, I think I will order some more kefir grains since the last lot were thrown out. I suffer with IBS and I've read it can really help with that. Worth perseveringly with really... I've thought about getting some 'slim fast' type milkshake powder to flavour it and have it as breakfast0 -

yes, give it another try, maybe if you experiment with temperatures & times you'll get a more acceptable result, or at least something you can flavour enough to get down!0 -
Kevie that looks fantastic!
Thanks so much for posting the pics, i`m starting to feel hungry now looking at them
This is definitely something that i will try, the only cheese that i`ve made is soft cheese made by straining hm yogurt and then adding garlic granules and chopped chives which is great for crackers and on toast. Nice to have something else to try.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Thanks so much for that, I'm actually feeling like I could give it a go! Cheesemaking always look awfully technical to me. Will hunt for some rennet later.
You might find this blog interesting http://www.littlegreencheese.com. It's a spin off from the Greening of Gavin blog which I read regularly.Must get organised and rejoin grocery challenge!0 -
Hi All,
I'm interested in making my own cheese!
I've looked at kits online and whilst they're not ridiculously priced, I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this, any links or good books to recommend as I'd prefer to be as OS as possible
Thanks in advanceWeight 21/08/12 - 11st 4lb  Target of 10st....
