That looks good!I've made a soft cheese,flavoured with some salt and pepper,which was tasty.
I used the leftover whey in breadmaking and as a drink.If you use it as a liquid in soups,be careful as the soup will boil over more easily.

The plate in the pic is a side plate so I suppose about the size of a clenched fist? Definitely at least 1.5 if not 2 times larger than the ones you buy in packets. You can also cook it a bit longer in the pot to make a firmer cheese you can also grate and that's really expensive in the shops!
The milk was £1.49 for the 4 pints (it's an expensive shop!) and I suppose about 2p for the citric acid and rennet. There's also gas an electricity to take into account so I guess rounding up it was about £1.60 ish. If you can get milk from a supermarket though that would be much cheaper. Also, raw (unpasteurised) milk has a much higher cheese yield per pint so worth finding a local dairy farm if possible. There's one here in Norfolk but he's stopped selling raw milk for a bit because of disputes with the FSA!

They are, but not enough to make a big difference to this recipe. I also used 2 litres of milk, not 4 pints I've discovered but all is fine. It's not a fine art really, to be honest!0

Wow this is very exciting, thank you for sharing... I have some rennet in the cupboard that is a bit out of date, do you reckon it'd be ok to use? I've got two cheese making books out of the library with good intentions but haven't got round to it yet.0

I don't think I'd risk it... For the sake of a £1.30 bottle of rennet I don't think it's worth risking a disaster!0

I got some of the milk grains from ebay, there are quite a few on offer just now
mine are sitting in a jar looking a bit neglected as I've been away, I think I'd better give them a feed today0
