just remember that the 60%, then extra 20% and the 10% voucher does not make 90% off the carpet. all number crunching. we've just got our carpet from allied but not down yet so who knows...A happy wife, and mum to 2 lovely little boys :j0

We recently compared prices for a carpet between them, Allied, and a local independant dealer.
Even with all discounts considered, amazingly the local dealer came out at nearly half the price.0 -
Yup, but if you have it fitted they insist on you having their gripper/underlay, you cant supply it yourself
I have had them just carpet before and put my own underlay down. I have always found carpet right really good - can get there roll ends haggled down to next to nothing too ! x0 -

I agree, the exact same happened to us, so my advice would be to stick to a local dealer.0 -
why do their fitters only accept cash? do they pay tax?0

I think some of the fitters aren't employed by the store but self employed0

I agree with most of the posts - local dealers are generally better. Wasnt sure at first, but ours (MG carpets in Newport) do free fitting and supply all grippers and good quality underlay and fitting in the price. The carpet prices are a little more but seem as good if not better quality carpet anyway. In Carpet right we've seen a bargain carpet but £10 per sq/m has been added for bits and pieces and fitting - so not such a bargain in the end.
Just like PC World and other large specialist stores generally. The bigger items - like PCs themselves - ain't too bad price wise but if you want a USB cable or something small you need for something to work you can get a nicely packaged one for £10 from PC World, or the same thing without packaging on the net for a couple of quid including postage.0 -
I can recommend http://www.tradepriced.co.uk/ for underlay. A wide selection at up to 70% cheaper than Carpetrights' underlay costs. We have used them twice and still got Carpetright to fit it but had to pay the fitter an extra £20.0

I got a 15 sqm roll my 11mm Cloud 9 cumulus off ebay for £45 delivered and that inc next day delivery. That worked out to be £3 sqm which is very good value.
