  • We bought our lounge carpet from them about 5 years ago - and at the time got an excellent deal and their service was excellent too.

I'd certainly check them out again when I'm looking for a stair carpet in the next year or so - but that doesn't mean that I won't be shopping around....

The Carpet Right near us always has a 60% off sale, or some other variation that works out the same (50% plus an extra 20% etc etc). There hasn't been a single day since it opened two or three years ago when it hasn't had a sale!
  • We have spent the last two weeks comparing CarpetRight, Carpet Barn and Allied. We also needed underlay, CarpetRight wanted £4.95 per sq metre and carpet barn were £2.49. When we said to CarpetRight that we would buy the underlay from somewhere else they said their fitters would charge an extra £1 per sq mt if the underlay was not from them !!!! Thought this was disgusting. Anyway went to the local carpet shop just to see if they could price match - not only could he, he was really friendly, didn't charge for the rods and ordered the carpet in direct from the manufacture. Came out at the same price but with better quality underlay and a better carpet. Would recommend checking out the smaller independent local guys first as they seem a lot nicer to deal with.

Don't buy your underlay from any carpet shop, they charge silly prices.
Last year I had to carpet the whole house, 3 floors top to bottom!!, I got all my carpet from carpetright and got all my underlay and gripper bars from ebay, I got the best I could find which was 'cloud 9', and ended up paying 1/3 rd of the price ,and that included delivery.
Laying your own underlay is very easy, just cut it so theres about one and a half inch gap to the wall and use brown packing tape to tape the joints together.
A few rooms I got the carpet fitters to lay, they charged me a tenner cash on the day .

We are off to buy some carpets soon but would rather go to a local firm
  • If anyone is after a carpet and is in the Midlands, I would recommend Devlin Wholsale located in Fazeley, Tamworth. We have always found them competative and are a family business so service is personal.

Before someone lynches me!!!!! I do not have any affiliation with the company and I am NOT advertising them, I am simply recommending that they are checked out.

From experience independent carpet companies are cheaper and better quality.

I took samples of wool carpets I liked from House of Fraser (it was 60% off) and Allied (50% off ). Unlike either of these stores he didn't limit me to a couple of samples but gave me 3 whole books full of same quality carpets and told me to hold onto them for a week so I could see them in all lights etc. If I bought from HOF the price including fitting, underlay etc was £800 for my bedroom, Allied Carpets £900 and the Independent man £495 (my bedroom is about 17' x 15' with a bay window. It's been down for about 4 years now and still looks fantastic. It hasn't stained and it hasn't worn.
