Broken into whilst asleep upstairs.

If you are still struggling to sleep it might be worth investing in a burglar alarm or if thats out of your price range you can get small battery alarms that you can connect to doors which go off it the doors/windows are opened and they only cost around £10 for a few.
It'll hopefully scare anyone off in case they woke you up, but mostly it'll go off and you should hear it if someone was to brake in again. Means you don't have to sleep with one ear listening out for noises and believing every noise is an intruder.
If that still doesn't do the trick you could always get a lock put on your bedroom door, as one added bit of security. But I'd personally say an alarm is enough as beyond that, you'd be becoming a vicitim for life whereby you are always having to lock yourself away to be safe.
By the way, anything sharp under your pillow isn't a good idea, not only is it dangerous to yourself, it would also show intent, if you ended up in court.
Stick with a hammer... Anyone can have a hammer lying around from the night before from putting up your bedroom wall clock or a photo frame, so it just happened to be the first thing that came to hand0 -
Really feel for you .
What makes my blood boil is that when Alex Curran got broken into they had the full police force and helicopters. Okay they where masked men but come on you don't advertise in the paper the week before that you bought your husband a £10k watch. ... Yet your situation and they couldn't come out there and then....
What are the police taxes for I hear a few of you say.
Best of luck and keep your chin up.:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -

Hi thanks Stephb1986 and Journ.
Yes they have taken my heart out of this place but i do feel slightly very slightly safer with the new upvc door as it has got more locks.
Just painting the bathroom for the viewing tomorrow.
I dont know what the insurance company will do. I have emailed them asking if i need to seek legal advice?
Things feel a mess.
thanks for posting. I hate to sound like i am moaning all the time, i know i am but i feel crap to be honest.0 -
You can get BT wireless alarms on ebay for £50-60. They're very easy to setup, can ring/txt nominated numbers when activated (for £5 pm subscription) and can be set so that certain sensors (i.e. external doors and windows) can be activated whilst inside.0

Oh and UPVC doors are normally very tough/secure (as long as you lock them fully). the frame bends under strain, instead of giving. A decent UPVC door would put most thieves off (the door at least) instantly.0
