JMU-95 is a poster on this forum who had some leaflets to give away. There's none left now and you'll be lucky to find one elsewhere now.

Applied for the 18 month interest free thanks to a leaflet from JMU-95:j . Got the 'approval form' back today to sign. Had a letter included saying there had been a 'problem' processing my application so they needed some more fields filling and then sign the credit agreement and away we go. Just reading the rest of the letter where it summarised my offer and lo and behold I was signing up for a 9 month interest free balance transfer:confused: . Rang them up and customer services can either see the original application somehow or the details and they agreed I had applied for the 18 month so would get 'an analyst' to look at it and get proper agreement sent out.

I know it's stating the obvious but always check the small print, and check they aren't pulling the wool over your eyes

I had exactly the same happen to me. I sent off for the 18 month deal. A couple of weeks later I received a letter the same as you, WobyTide, stating exactly the same thing. I rang to query it and was told this was basically a preliminary letter and doesn't mean it is what I will be offered in the end, so it could be the 18 month agreement and I could query it afterwards.

I received my card today, whilst activating my card I queried the BT term, and I've been given 12 months (although it runs out in May 2006?!) I was on the phone for 40 mins while they tried to sort out my application and in the end I was told that my application had been done over the internet. They were adament about this, although were careful not to make me think they were calling me a liar when I had already said it was a paper application from a leaflet in a magazine.

After they told me they could only change the BT term if I had the original T&C's (which I could not find) I rang them back a little later when my son said to ask for the IP address of the computer it was sent from, to prove that I didn't do it over the internet and low and behold, I was then told the application was done over the phone not the internet. (Sounds like they're just making it up as they go along!)

Since then I have found the T&C's and original front page of the original applicaion and have faxed them together with a letter to Cap.1.

Was rang by them this evening by person I spoke to originally. They are claiming it as a genuine error and that probelm is the system no longer has the code for 18mth 0% deals so whoever typed it in picked the 9mth deal instead. They are trying to reinstate the code or sort it out somehow and will get back to me in by Tuesday.

Thanks WobyTide. As yet, I haven't had a response to the fax I sent yesterday. I'm going to try sending it to them again tomorrow. Will keep you updated.

For the record to help those in dispute with Cap One.... I sent my application to them by recorded delivery (as suggested by this thread). Royal Mail confirmed receipt on 30th June (so they must have been able to choose this code then). In any case the offer is still open until 1 August so no excuse for the system not havign the relevant code.....

They processed my 18 month application within a week. The balance transfer was done, the card was received and confirmation of credit limit without me needing to sign anything else.

Some of you refer to an "approval letter" but I did not receive this. Maybe only required if you are being "offered" different deal / T&Cs.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

I sent my 18 month application in a normal envelope on 5th july and received my card yesterday 14th july with a £5000 limit and 18 months 0% BT £50 fee.Tried to up the limit but they were having none of it so I did a £4900 BT to my egg card which will be stoozed, set up a direct debit for the minimum and activated the card all in one quick free phone call. :D

  • From experience its always worth complaining if you've had a bad time with any company. To be fair its likely that some of these examples will be down to credit scoring.

Anyone can apply for a 18 month interest free card with a massive limit, not everyone is going to get it. As an extreme example a 18 year old student with no income is not going to be given £25K @ 0% 18 months.

Like all companies they're there to make money, if they don't think you're going to make them money then they're not going to give you a card that's going to make them a loss. In the end its their money and they can pick who to give it to and under what circumstances.

If you've been misadvised, I'd contact them at the complaints address. Always contact the company first. If you go to the FSA or Ombudsman they will make sure you've complained to the company first and that the company has followed the approved process. If you're still unhappy then its time to get in touch with FSA or Ombudsman. However I'd think they're unlikely to take action on you not getting the card you've applied for unless you've catagorically been told you'd get this and can prove it.

Orang Fish, The product I applied for offered 18 months 0% on balance transfers. They are precise about that, no mention of 'upto 18 months 0% interest on balance transfers' for example.

The T&C's also only talk about 18 months and compare other companies products with their 18 month BT offer. No mention of an alternative time frame being offered which would appear to me that in that case they would be bound to provide the adverised product.

I disagree that 'anyone can apply for a credit card with a massive limit'. You are only offered a credit limit after you apply. There was no mention of the size of credit limit which would be offered so obviously it would be based on each individuals credit rating score. They are also making money from people who use the BT facility as they are charging a fee of upto £50.

I don't think this has anything to do with peoples credit rating at all. The product on sale is clearly offered in the leaflet as I have mentioned before with no indication that an alternative may be offered. I personally have an excellent credit rating score, and have been offered a credit limit of £15,000 which obviously reflects this. I would like to see an 18 year old with no income offered this! It is more to do with problems witihin Capital One and a case of the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. (I might add though, my OH has been a customer with them for a few years with no problems.)

In my case, when I rang Cap1, I was told I had applied on the internet, (when obviously I haven't) this had been checked by 3 different people and it was showing on each persons screen. When I called back later to make further enquiries into the computers IP address which had supposedly applied online I was then told it was not an internet application but it was done via telephone. Now tell me they know what they are doing!

Thankfully I kept the T&C's and front cover of the application which I have now faxed to them twice, with no response as yet. According to one of their assistants, this is all the proof I would need.

There is no reason why I should not have been offered this product other than miss-selling or a balls-up in the Cap1 office.
