I'm afraid I can't comment on your previous post MG cuz I've only just mastered finding this thread:p But with the more "committed" Shabsters spending more time on the other site, perhaps we can combine the make do & mend with shabbying on here, cuz to my thinking it's the same thing
Could be wrong of course [& 99.9% of the time I AM in the wrong according to the offspring
], & welcome other peeps opinions.

I'm all for the make do and mend thread starting up again, I brought up two boys on my own, they were always well turned out and well fed and they ate for Britain. I never got into debt back then, had loads of part time jobs, having to give them up at school hols, as child care then was out of my reach. It kept us going though. I still love to save money, so lets do it!”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

Being brought up in the 1940's I was quite used to the 'make do and mend' way of life and carried it on with my children. Never being blessed with a high income it was a 'needs must' situation and as a result has taught my two boys the value of money from a very early age. No bad thing in my opinion.
They never went without but nor did they ever get accustomed to 'designer wear' like so many of todays youngsters where it seems everything must have a label and a price tag to matchMary

Was it here where peeps were talking about make-over programmes we used to lke waching:rolleyes: I was hooked on 'Change That' were folk took in say--3 wine crates--& came out with a 15' dining table & four-poster bed:rotfl: :rotfl:
'House Invaders' was another favourite, but I was always suspicious about the amount of new tins of paint apparently 'left behind' by previous inhabitants:pFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.
