yes no problem....but you will be searched on the way out...;) :p

    oooo fab - I'm in! :A

Now, I've come in incredibly depressed, to face this (new today cos we had to have the archaic plumbing system updated before it blew up):

DH says it can be covered, but it's straight behind the front door? It strikes me I can't shabby chic this area? Please reassure me, someone. This is the same hall I'm going to do Vintage Pleasure's suggestions to the cupboards which face this - they are further along under the stairs. I'd thought of wallpapering this one wall, but I just feel a bit low now. What do I do? Please tell me it'll get better. I'm sitting here with a HUGE glass of wine not quite knowing what to plan or do about it. :(:(:(

Well, it is a shock - part of the reason I wanted this was to get rid of pipes. To have them right by the front door - nobody else has pipes everywhere. I am depressed about it. I was feeling so excited about the hall as well, with all VP's suggestions earlier in the thread.

is your husband handy with mdf or something to box them in and hide them altogether? That way it would look just like that bit of wall comes out a bit further?

I have pipes all over the place (and in my house too...:rotfl: , sorry :o ) either for the heating system or for electric cables but most have been painted the same colour as the walls and some have been boxed in and the box painted. They do blend in and you will be able to make your hall look great.

At the moment it looks worse than it actually is because it is so new to you and the copper colour is strong. The pipes are in a good place to be hidden as they are in a corner - we had an electrician from hell who wanted to run a cable down the middle of the sitting room wall including up and over the picture rail  . He thought that was OK!

Enjoy the wine and maybe ask the contractors if they can box the pipes for you.

Ok, me and Clutterfree have pipes everywhere! No one else does!
Thank you for making me smile!
Still don't know what to do, though.
NEgirl: yes, he's handy and says they will be boxed in, but I can't see that the box won't be obvious to everyone coming in the front door. Perhaps it'll seem better in the morning.

Luxor: just saw your post, which must have gone whilst I was writing. So that's 3 of us, then! Me smiling now! I think you are right, they won't seem so bad. A bit more wine from when I came in, though, has helped! ;-)

NEgirl, I have had a problem with pipes like that before. What I did, and it worked really well, was to have the pipes boxed in, and then choosing a smallish patterned paper, just paper over the wall and the boxing in as well, if you see what I mean. The pattern sort of takes the edges of the harshness of the boxing in and it all sort of melts into the wall. A large pattern wouldn't work, but a nice little floral or a ditsy print would help it to just merge into the background. If you have fallen in love with a bigger pattern, then use moulding to create panels, and then paper the panels with the bigger pattern, then choose a toning smaller pattern for the rest of the wall, including the boxing in parts.

I hope it all goes well for you!
:hello:  please play nicely children !
