I've been having one of those kind of days today too. I spent the morning trying to strip the wardrobe I'm revamping. Not much luck with Nitromors and sanding wasn't much good either. Gave up (after seemingly wrecking the wardrobe) and tried to clean the playhouse toys. Remembered I'd not cleaned up earlier and tipped Nitromors and White Spirit residue down the sink only to feel my toes getting warm and wet ............
Sink had sprung a leak. Foul smelling water all over the place. One large bag of rice, some potatoes, two sleeping bags and a few blankets and several boxes of washing products ruined....... To cap it all I lit a few joss sticks to disguise the smell and the Tesco delivery man accused me of being a drug addict ! Thank crunchie it's Friday!!!!!!!
Ooh poor love I hate days like that.
Just for future reference though you shouldn't be tipping nitromors etc down your sink it really isn't good for it (or the environment).

    Poor you Myrtle.

I need some help from IceCream/Stas regarding the bag pattern. Now I've already given up on the Sewing for Dummies bag pattern so be aware I'm worse than a dummy. I have my squared paper all ready to transfer the pattern but confused regarding the handle bit. Across the base it's 17" plus 4.5" either side of the handle, so by my dummyish reckoning the handle should be 8" but it's showing as 3.5". Does that mean it tapers to the top?
Hi - yep, it tapers to around three inches. Just be sure to fold it together so it's symmetrical to get it right before you cut the pattern. Can't wait to see it! x

Can I just say what an inspiration you all are?
I'd especially like to say that Icandream (or IceCream as you now seem to be affectionately known as on here! :D ) has come on leaps and bounds.
It was only a few short weeks ago that she was nervous about doing a patchwork wall and now she has done a sewing chest and is now revamping a chair!!! :T
It puts my measily mirror to shame! lol
    Well done you! :j

My username is absolute c*)P: please feel free to adapt it anyway you want. Everything else was taken when I tried and if I thought I was going to enjoy MSE so much, I'd have tried for longer to find a good name.

But it's true: you have all given me and each other so much encouragement and support, and I love this thread. But what I do certainly isn't in danger of putting anything to shame: I love seeing the little as well as the big projects. It's the little things that have got me feeling I can do stuff in the limited time I have. The chair - ha ha - I don't know how that's going to progress.
By the way, rose-sparky, revenge is sweet - stabbed myself three times on the staples so far! Serves me right. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Edited to say: thank you all so much re the chair. I'll certainly keep you updated, but let me know if it becomes boring!

Yep I'm in the Manchester area.My hunting ground is Ashton-u-Lyne, Stalybridge and Emmaus in Mossley.I must expand my territory!! Tee-hee!
I think most charity shps are full of treasure you just have to develop a keen eye.Colours and textures tell you so much so I always scan the shop first.I can usually spot something I like within seconds of entering a shop and most of the time my adrenalin kicks in as I panic that someone will make it there before me!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: i know exactly what you mean...lol... when i used to go to the charity shops to try and find vintage clothing etc.... i would stand just inside the door way and scan, i dont know whether it was experience or 'a feeling' that would draw you to a certain item...and it would be s*d's law that a little frail old blue rinsed woman would barge passed you and pick the item up..and you knew you could get to the item, as she would trip you up with her walking stick:rolleyes: and she knew thats what you wanted... and she would then carry it around the shop, just to tease you....

    aaaaahhhhh those were the days.....

i know this is going to sound weired, with all the flipping clothes etc that i deal with.. but now and again i do wonder into charity shops as a customer, and see if i still got it...i mean sniff a vintage bargin at 20 paces.....lol....

I'm sorry, I'm in one of those moods. I'll get slapped wrists now for going off topic. I'd better sign off for a bit and get more sensible again.
