hopefully the memo board will be done over the weekend...
and some vintage tableclothes that i just brought in from the line as its starting to rain...lol... the one on the right is my favourite one... late 50's early 60's me thinks...
( i am sure i am stuck in a time warp.....)
and yep you guessed it.. they came into work...via a skip
I have the same corner unit in my bathroom, my ceiling is pine panelling and accessories are all pine to and was thinking of painting them all cream to brighten it up.
Please post a pic of the corner shelves when its finished as im not sure whether i dare start it incase i end up making it worse!0 -
cooltrikerchick - be interested to see what you do with the tray. I've got an old brown wooden one my Dad made at school. It's so drab looking it's stuffed up a corner and I really want to do something with it to make it worth putting where it can be seen.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Not being nosey, just interestedwhat do you have to do to get into that, Oh will retire in a couple of years and we are looking at what to do to earn some money.
Hope that's not too intrusive.
to be honest its a lot of hard work, its VERY competitive and the licensing criteria is changing all the time... it took me ages to actually get registered etc.... myself and the premises..as its all classed as waste...its not all nice fabrics and clothes coming in.... i think i have mentioned this before, but most of the time its rubber gloves and a nose peg you need... especially with the shoes and underwear
all i can say is a year or 2 down the line it could be all diff to now...so when he retires.. then find out what he would like to do... a paying hobby maybe?
anyway sorry back on topic.....vp.... more photos of tableclothes to come:D soonWork to live= not live to work0 -
Vintage Pleasure, they're lovely. I'd never have the patience to make something like that. They remind me a little of those animated thingies on the Corsa advert.
I bought a pine corner unit like that for £1 at the boot sale. Have shoved it in the shed for now as I wasn't sure what to do with it. It's very yellowy and quite thick with varnish so not sure if it would be worth sanding etc.0 -
the old serving tray i am going to paint cream and hopefully line it with the wall paper from cath kidston...i am waiting for a sample to come, i am hoping that the greem will match/compliment the green that i painted my kitchen units.... so everything will tie in, so to speak..
http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=1-59-4-1&cid=CottonDuck&pcidl=&language=en-GB
but if that one doesnt match, it will be something similar...along those lines so to speak...i will also line the dumb waiter with that one too
the pine corner shelf/unit i am going to paint the same as colour as i panted my kitchen unit doors, which is like a pastal green/willow colour...
the memo board i am going to paint cream, as i will be putting this on the door under the stairs, which i painted the same colour as the kitchen units....
i also have some other ideas to what to do with it, but don know if they will work ...so dont want to say just incase i make a b*llsup of it...lol...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Well I have a little conservatory that was here when I came and I think it's more of a utility room and for about 10 months of the year it's too cold to sit thee and I had a large settee and cane chair that was taking up too much room also my tumbledrier was out there plus a dresser and bookcase:eek::eek: and it was neither one thing or the other.
Also my house is small and it was ok when I was on my own but since OH has been here with his boys toys (tools) and his habit of buying things in two's or three's I am pushed for storage so I'm going to put that in the newly named 'utility room' and have taken the cane stuff out and put it on freecycle.
I am fancying painting it a nice pale yellow with touches of green
I've done it in paint program and it looks good with a little gingham curtain instead of the glass doors,0 -

I think that the car advert softies were inspired by things sold on etsy at the time.I'm not saying I inspired them but they were definitely very similar to the style that was going on at the time and peoples renewed enthusiasm in buying hand made.In fact Habitat even sold a range of soft toys that were very similar to some being sold on etsy I had already seen.Their researchers definitely surf the net looking for ideas in blogs etc.
Getting back to money saving shabby chic I had a great trip to the charity shops today.
I got a lovely vintage suitcase and umbrella, heaps of Pyrex, some embroidered cushion covers, stacks of vintage clothes patterns, vintage books, vintage hankies and napkins,a little costume doll (for my eldest),cake plate, vintage crocheted coasters and doilies and a vintage board game all for £6!
Then I went to the furniture section and got a gorgeous wall corner cupboard just right for chic-ing up and a little MDF bookcase ready to paint. Just £10 for the two.
I am one very happy bunny and will post photos when I have washed the plates etc!
It takes the edge off the disappointment that my daughter knocked over the little cupboard I painted up and shattered one of the panes of glass.Boo hoo.0 -
Thanks Cool, something to think about as you say in the future.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

I love all the finds you have all got lately - cant wait to see what you all make with the fabrics etc!! I can never find anything worthwhile in the charity shops round here so i presume someone must go round them all and clear them out of anything semi decent
Ive uploaded a few photos of the finished sewing table to my blog but im not sure im allowed to link to it anymore as i posted some ebay things on there too?? So heres a picture *fingers crossed and hope it works*

I'm taking a break from [strike]making[/strike] attempting a tote bag with some vintage fabrics. The last straw was pricking myself with a pin and getting tiny red spots on the creamy fabric. :eek:0
