ooo so i was right then...... the guy down the pub told him how much it was worth...lol...
as the saying goes, what people want, and what people get are two intirely different things....
if someone could re- post the link, maybe we should all watch it they might think it IS worth a fortune...lol....:p
i knew someone.. who thought they knew about antiques.... and used to do open days in a village hall or in peoples houses ( usually oap's) and try to give valuations, in the hope that he could pick up some under-valued things, the things that he didnt want or knew anthing about, he just used to make a figure up, and say he didnt buy that type of thing...
a right artfull dodger type guy...
thought he knew it all, but knew nothing, so mis- lead people...
at the end of the day, the way i look at it, antiques, or anything really, is only worth what people are prepared to pay for it...
as 2 mes'ers could look at one shabby chic item, and one is prepared to pay lets say £10, and the other one would pay £100 for it...
hope all that made sense......lol... think i better go an make a cuppa, and wake up a bit,Work to live= not live to work0 -

I think it will be going back on ebay this weekend! Also today, in the charity shop, there was a lovely glass dressing table set.... but when I went to pick it up it was covered in black hairs. I can imagine it sitting in someone room for years and years and their big black dog/cat/hairy housekeeper coming in and scratching hairs everywhere and the whole place never being cleaned. I know it's stupid and everything looks better with a good scrub but I honestly couldn't even pick it up....
But I have to say that the one and only time I ever went to Haven I couldn't bring myself to sleep on their mattresses either (they were rank) so maybe I'm just overly fussy!!
I know what you mean about the quilt smell I think they have always been smelly.Maybe it's the feathers? I remember my grandma's smelling when I was kid.0 -

Here's the link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200210703516 The seller say's it's an antique but I'm sure by definition an antique has to be over 80 years old and the cupboard definitely isn't!
BTW someone was asking about padded hangers so I thought I'd share a photo of mine with you
I get them from charity shops who normally throw them out.Just ask and most places will save some for you. They never charge more than a few pence.0 -
Little_Chicken wrote: »Afternoon guys. do you have any advice on the best place to buy padded hangers. Nice shabby cotton ones rather than uglie satin:eek: There are some on ebay, but was wondering if there were nice ones elsewhere. Big thanks.
I found these, thought they were a clever way to cover the triangle ones.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

thanks for the link.... looking at it again..... its not even mint condition....and it doesnt seem quite right... but it could be the quality of the photos, and lack of them...
as for definitions of when to call something antique ...i would have to pass on that...
but when to comes to clothes...what i am lead to believe.... anything pre 40's - 50's could be classed as antique, and anything 60's onwards is retro,
but this will alter from collector to collector i know with cars to be classed as vintage the car has to be before a certain date....but i think nowadays anything which is 'old' is advertised as vintage....
which to be honest with my ebay listings i do tend to use the vintage word....to discribe... anything from the 70's back....
edit...... is it me or does it looks as though its had a dodgy paint job ? or is it just the way the light is shining on it ?Work to live= not live to work0 -
I think its the light, i'm sure the paint is original.
Not my cup of tea though lolYou're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -

You are probably right, it's nice to mix and match, I just like the colour of the Jasmine, I bought my bits locally in a "junk" shop but they are getting quite expensive on ebay with the postage added. I don't have a lot of one thing, I like just buying bits and pieces that attract me.0
