    Hi All,

My gosh we have all been busy posting today :) it is lovely to see this thread still going strong :)

Well I went to Plymouth today and could have spent a small fortune in the 500+ shops :)

TK Maxx was FAB!! They had some fantastic items and I could have spent a few hundred in there on all their shabby chic items that they do not have where I live, it was soooo much bigger too but I restrained myself :(

I got a quilted throw however with matching pillow shams a porcelain French soap dispenser and wooden fretwork powder room sign for my bathroom which is coming together nicely now :)

I also found a NEXT sale shop that sells past season and current clothing, got £400 worth for £100 :) so I am a happy bunny as I have not been clothes shopping since September last year!

My buy of the day though was a book that I have been after for ages and I would recommend you ALL go out and buy it :)

It is called Sew Pretty Homestyle http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sew-Pretty-Homestyle-Irresistible-Projects/dp/0715327496/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205622767&sr=8-1

It has tons of projects that are all OUR style, it has gone to the top of my favourite book list straight away!

Night night all and hope to spend more time with you all tomorrow as I am having a lazy day after the obligatory Sunday shop!!

    Hi everyone!
I love all the tales of bargains... sorry you didn't get the ebay thing you wanted Mollymop - but you'll end up with something else sooner or later, I'm sure, and you'll love it just as much. Triage: love the look of that book. Will put it on my list.
Well, I sanded and primed the sewing box last night. Now got to find time to paint it with the F&B...

    However, in the meantime -

Anybody around and able to advise re the patchwork wall. Got the samples and dd's due home at 4pm from Brownie camp, so I'd love to have got it done for that (it's not a big wall). Do I paste over and cut away the paper underneath each time, if you see what I mean. How do I design - have laid them out on the floor, but it's not as easy as I thought! Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Happy shabbying!;)

I tend to be a bit slap dash and just paste each piece & stick it on.I dont design just do it by eye so I cant help on that. If you are using wallpaper paste I would paste as normal, fold and let it rest fo a few mins I use pva but its difficult to move it about afterwards.

My top tip would be once you've stuck it down give it a good rub, I use a bookbinding tool over a piece of greaseproof but the back of a spoon works quite well.
    Sorry cant be more help.
    simplicity is key

Thanks rachelleblondel: I'm using wallpaper paste. I think the do it as I go along is probably the best option. I'm geting into a tangle with it all spread over the floor.

  • oOOh you little tinker what a bargin...I love jasmine & beryl, iris is my least fav cause I got lots of johnsons/spode which is similar. My latest has been an jasmine jug (50p) of which I have a few I just can't stop buying them! I bought a box of beryl for £18 I must have at least 50 cups so if your ever short of a few....I was keeping them for when I open my shabby chic B&B & tea room....be a few years if ever with the new baby. Although I did spy 2 beryl teapots in the AC warehouse so if they are there next time I will be buying them........OH rolls his eyes towars the heaven and asks how many teapots do we really need......Hoarders hoorah!
My other wish list id for a service of crown devon 'stockholm' esp for christmas dinner got a few bits but not enough for everyone
I love Stockholm too have you seen the green version Greenland? It's much rarer but I'd love to have a mix of the two. Also Alfred Meakin do a stag design that is very similar.I think I'll start a little christmas collection!
  • well i went to llandudno today.. there were a couple of charity shops well about four.. but i didnt find anything and i thought that some were a little overpriced aswell.. £14 for a pair of dolcis shoes.. no thanks!!

anyways i got a tester pot from homebase last night just from there kitchen paint range... it was a soft green.. painted some squares this morning but when i came home this evening its looks very acidy .. not very "soft!", i didnt want to paint the kitchen cream as my cupboards will be cream so dont want it to look like a big cream box. but not sure now.. dont want to do it blue as the light isnt right for blue..
so not sure now.. what colour would you go for.. im going to have cream cupboards and oak worktops,
lots of shabby chicness thrown in through accessories in shades of blues pinks and greens so what wall colour would go with this !!!
I personally would go for a shade lighter than your cupboards.I know you may feel it will look like a cream box but once you add all your accessories there will be plenty of colour.Sometimes chosing a background colour makes a room look too busy.Whereas a neutral background showcases your things instead.

Hey, thanks Jinny: Vintagepleasure had posted a link to the pic (big big thanks VP), but I hadn't looked at the blog it came from (I'm afraid I'm a little bit long in the tooth, and am only just starting to understand what blogs are: one day I'll try and be brave enough to work out how to post comments, as they are a source of such wonderful ideas). Is this your blog? It's great: it's talking me through it.
    Thank you.

We started in the mid height of the wall to one side and just built it up as we went along.Put your favourite design at head height so that takes your eye. Then remember to spread the colours out all over the wall. That way you don't focus too much in one place. We pasted over the top of pieces as opposed to butting up.Also we varied the sizes of the pieces.
Just take your time and keep stepping back to get the effect. Also use a bit
of blu-tac to pin pieces up and move them around a little.
Try to remember the whole scheme but just work in smallish areas so that you don't get overwhelmed.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/vintage_pleasure/419115442/ and here's the book that inspired us http://www.flickr.com/photos/vintage_pleasure/365043323/
Save them and print them out if you like and then you can keep having a look.
