Well Freecycle has done it again :T

Picked up a lovely pair of ornate silver candlesticks today, each one has 3 branches too :) they will look rather nice on the dining room table at easter.

Not looking forward to working the next two days as it means walking around in the pouring rain, I just want to get it out of the way as we are off to Plymouth on Saturday that has lots of lovely Not Your Normal Higstreet shops!

And I checked that they had a TK Maxx too :rotfl: :rotfl: It is huge in comparison to ours so I am aim to [STRIKE]abandon[/STRIKE] leave the family to their own devices for half hour so that I can browse their homeware section!

Hope you all have a lovely day

As I've said previously my home isn't really shabby chic/country cottage in the slightest - it's more modern/contemporary ....however today I found a couple of gorgeous shabby chic items in the charity shops:

    Painted wire basket (£1.00):

It needs a bit of a clean as it has a small amount of rust and there was even cobwebs on it!!!

Gorgeous Shabby Chic single bed spread (£3.50):
This is for my 9 year old daughter. She has to share a room with her 11 year old brother so I can't make her a 'shabby chic room' but I do buy her bits and bobs so if when we move and she has her own room, it will be shabby chic (like ebaybaby's daughters absolutely, adorable, gorgeous bedroom)!

And I found this in a pound shop (£1.00 obviously :D):

:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j
  • Kisto- well done on your finds. i really like that bed spread. i was at DD's house yesterday and she said that i could give her bedroom the shabby chic look, she has got a fab pine wardrobe that is just asking to be given that distressded look, never tried it befor so i might find a couple of things to practice on first.
Back on MSE again! to take control of my finances and not let it control me. :T May grocery challenge £41.96/140

hey you keep up your own end  :rotfl: ;)

Our tk maxx (Plymouth) is fab, I could spend way too much in there!!!!! on the bottom floor follow round as if you are going in the lift and thats where their reduced bit is (pass the bathroom stuff).
Don't forget to check out the charity shops...... I havn't been for a while :( getting withdrawal symptoms!!!! If you get time head to Mutley (follow signs from centre, its not far) its just one road but there must be at least 8 charity shops there, I always manage to find something! Good luck and make sure you let us all know what you get x
    Hope this helps.....

Thank you for the suggestion, I showed this to OH - as he is very 'unhandy' he went pale  , so I shall return to plan A and loose cover the shelves. It's all straight lines so as long as I measure carefully I think it will be fine.

My problem will be choosing great fabric , oh and posting the photos  .

I can sew but I am IT incompetent at times and have been avoiding posting the cabinets, trolley etc because I am sure I will get confused with the photo host :o
You could always just add a curtain to the front of the bookcase using a net wire. Then make a long runner (even reversible?) to cover the top and sides of the bookcase. That way it would all be romovable for washing?

I am after a couple of candelabra type candlesticks. There was a lovely idea in Marie Claire Idees that showed a candlestick with vintage tea-cups attached as little bowls. Fred showed a photo on his blog here http://fredsworld.wordpress.com/2008/03/06/pipped-to-the-post/ I think it would be lovely for a kids party and I have a few of them coming up!

I am looking forward to this project as I have only ever loose covered chairs before. The bookcase is ugly fake wood formica stuff, which would need special primer before painting, so fabric will probably be cheaper, especially if I can find curtains or similar in a charity shop. The back panels are dodgy and will need to be taped in place too.
Hadn't thought about washing the cover, so I shall use velcro on one side seam so that the cover can be removed.
    I like a challenge!
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
  • Kisto, I love your finds. Especially the bedspread.
