Love the new look, so fresh and inviting Cooltrikerchick!
I felt very nostalgic when I saw your measuring cone in front of the microwave, my Nana had one when i was small! I think Lakeland had some for a while, years back, but I didn't manage to get up to the Cardiff shop in time.
Swansea MSE-ers: I found some lovely retro style kitchen items in the Hyper-Value near the Enterprise zone, they are also selling paint now, so worth a look if you are in the area.
Shall be plucking up courage to try & post some photos of my bargains, also my painted items!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Cooltrikerchick, looks lovely.
I have a love hate relationship with this thread. We are selling at the mo and so have decluttered and I can't do anything that makes mess or challenges the 'setting' of the house. I'm full of ideas for my new house - if only I could guarantee that I was going to get a new house - aaaaaah0 -

i live in the swansea area..... so might take a nose in hypa value...
i had the measuring cone in a load of bits from the auction.. ages ago.. and to be honest i do use it..... its great.....
the black end of the top unit is a chalk board.. but havent got any
chalk yet  .. i have also painted the back door and the door to the spare room and also the door for under the stairs the same colour as the kitchen cupboard doors, which isnt in the photos..
also clean the that part of the kitchen from top to bottom.... even my dirty drawers  :cool:Work to live= not live to work0 -

ok it is not shabby chic.... but it is CLEAN and painted... and DE- CLUTTERED:D
i am now looking out of a dresser type wall unit so i can put on the opp wall to the units.... it also looks as though the dumb waiter ( once i get round to painting it ) will have to go on the opp wall too, so i have room to put my deep fat fryer.... veggies etc...
right deep breath....( show the world how dirt..messy... and drab.. my kitchen was )

and here are some photos of my kitchen now....the bits i managed to salvage from work are the laura ashley chloe rug on the floor ok... slightly too wide but i can live with that.... the 2 hand towels with perfect colours to match the kitchen.. used to cover the microwave and breadmaker... and an old pillow case to cover the unsightly old brown cooker hood.as i say not shabby chic.. but i feel so proud of what i have done, plus by painting the cupboard doors it does make the kitchen a lot brighter and bigger...
ok i still havent got a lampshade....lol..... but i am sure i will find one in a bootsale or charity shop one day.. plus hopeing to change the work surface... when a cheap one in a sale at b&q comes up.. plus there is still some more bits to do...net for the window etc.. but at least i started, and can see a diff
right ok i am going to press the submit reply button now...
Blimey, it is so light now, amazing what a coat of paint can do. Great job0 -

If you have a Dunelm shop locally they sell the measuring cones. They had some last week.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

Cooltrikerchick your kichen looks so much brighter!!
I am on my own with dd so money is tight so i cant afford new kitchen etc so i bought some of that sticky fablon stuff to cover my benches (beech block beige) from wilkinson £3 a roll and also got new cupboard knobs of ebay to match, i had a lot of pink things already but this has totally transformed my kitchen! :T0 -
... it has rekindled my enthusiasm for homemaking and I'm surprised at how just a few cheap additions has made a huge difference!!
I 'set' the table for our lunchtime sandwich and used a teapot and milk jug...it felt almost like we were out for lunch!!!!! Have decided all my pretty things are to be used not just to look at while they collect dust!! ...
This thread has done the same for me too boysmum; I'm moving in a few weeks to a little old house, lots of arched mullion windows and window seats and Z doors! I'm really enjoying planning my shabby country/ shabby chic home.
I decided to go back to loose tea (fed up of all the dust that's left in my cup from tea bags) so I've bought a tea strainer and some co-op fairtrade tea and took one of my bone china cups and saucers down from the shelf. It's so nice to be spoiling myself in the way that I would make a guest feel special.
cooltrikerchick, your kitchen is lovely and so light, well done! :T... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
