Hi everyone, have been browsing the thread and am green with envy at all your lovely homes. I really love the shabby chic look but unfortunately my home is just shabby! I have never really liked this house:o somehow no matter what I do to it it never feels like home - I always much prefer being in other peoples houses, is that weird or what!! My house is just so full of mess and rubbish and everything strewn everywhere that I never know where to start and any nice pieces I do have just get lost amongst the general chaos.

I love old houses but ours is a 70s box. We extended it at the back and it has made parts of the house very dark, need the lights on in the kitchen nearly all the time, not good if your mood is a bit dark anyway!

Any ideas on how I can get to love my home?

Thanks for the replies :) I figure buying tins off Ebay where you can't see the inside properly is not such a good idea then.

Hi Cat, how about a major decluttering to start with and then either paint the place in light colours to make the most of the light or playing up the darkness by making them really cosy?
I'm not too keen on my place either but get a lift when I come in and it's all clean and tidy - still shabby - it just seems more welcoming!:D

Before we painted our kitchen units with F&B, I bought a couple of sample pots to try first - although the samples are emulsion only, they give a good idea of the colour. Colour is affected by its surroundings too, so worth perhaps painting an A4 card in the sample colour and looking at it against floor colour and in daylight/artificial light. I believe there is no postage charge when buying F&B sample pots direct.

Haven't been disappointed in any of the F & B colours so far! We have: - Green Blue (Kitchen Units) , Clunch (Kitchen/utility wall units and walls), Ringwold Ground (dresser), Farrow's Cream (living room), Archive (hall stairs and landing) and Fowler's Pink (dining room).

cat64 I was thinking would lots of mirrors help with the light problem ? We have loads in our house and they don't have to cost a fortune. I also prefer plain but light walls & then add colour & texture with prints & plates etc on them. Co -ordinating curtains & cushions also help to pull a look together. HTH

    Good Morning Guys,

I have a wardrobe which I am going to F&B... The wardrobe is years old now (MFI) - I reckon the doors are probably pine (but smooth) and the sides are probably a pine finish... the back is just the usual flimsy panels.

It a bit like this one below,

Now - I am a virgin furniture painter! So where do I start? sand it? undercoat it?... and I am looking for a white F&B colour - can anyone recommend a name of a paint colour? Would I need just one tin?

Sorry for all the Q's guys... and while am here - could anyone advise me how to start a blog?

Thank you all... I really love looking at your photos - you have all inspired me so much into making my house my home :A

To start with I would give it a really good scrub/clean with hot water & washing soda.

If you read back a fair few pages of the thread there are lots of posts on where to start. Good Luck
