My thinking is 'how hard can it be?' It's really the size I need to work on: the mum is supposed to be sending me some measurements and I have a book with some sweet mitts in, again I think too big but I can probably fudge that too.

I do find that very small mittens can be a bit fiddly  if you are knitting  in the round.
I'm  hoping  DGS doesnt lose these. We looked after him for a couple of months while DD was in hospital  and he managed to lose three sunhats in a week

There's a lot to be said for having a long crocheted or knitted chain to tie the mittens together and thread through coat arm holes! I did that with our girls' mitts when they were small.

I am tempted to do that for DGS but suspect he'll  think he's  too old for that.

I said as much to the lady I'm knitting them for, but wasn't sure that wasn't discouraged these days - or it is just elastic you shouldn't use?

Would he accept ribbon with his favourite football team's colours / logos on? I just googled ...

I realise that's assuming he has one: but you get my drift.

  • That's  a good idea, thank you. He's  mad about football.  His Dad is a great Chelsea supporter  and I think DGS is too.

Thank you, Pip for your kind words. It makes a difference to me to visualise the people on the forums, so as you and Laura have put photos on I thought it would be ok.

  • i finally got my reader's shawl started.  i'm a lazy, uninterested sort of person...if it's not quick and easy, I don't really want to do it.  But I finally got the 2x2 rib (only 4 rows, i am truly pathetic) done correctly and it's all garter stitch for about 12,337 rows.  But it is started.  It should be about 6 feel long and in 2 days I got more than 12inches done so i'm happy.
