Some lovely things on here. I'm still crocheting my granny squares for a sofa blanket which we need sooner than I expected!

  • I would really love to be able to crochet my man makes these vast crocheted blankets one of which I have on my bed it is the warmest blanket ever and would love to have the skill to make one. As for the knitting im a currently nearly finished the dress for my first ever knitted doll, stupidly I have also started three different scarves for family members for Xmas, I struggle to repeat the same pattern for any length of time so keep swapping and changing I also have a second mitten to do for myself oh dear lol. So many toys n things to make for Xmas and so little time.

  • Thank you mrsm-p :)

Little Vics, I have the KnitPicks options set (now branded as KnitPro) and I love them. Linky:

You can buy additional tips and cables too. I also use their fixed cable circs in smaller sizes to knit socks.

Hi - can I ask for some advice about needles?

I need to buy some circulars with interchangeable tips, and need 5mm and 7mm for the pattern I'm about to start. I have NO IDEA what I'm looking for or where to get them from - can anyone help?

    Thanks...

    xLV

I use circulars, but not interchangeables. I use Knit Pro wooden and metal, in smaller mm sizes than you are looking for, but on the whole they are good (had one wooden tip arrive broken but e-bay seller replaced it for me). I got mine from e-bay.

Granny squares aren't that difficult once you get the hang of them. My lovely TA at my last school sat for quite a few lunch times with me and taught me and was rewarded with a bottle of her fave port as a thank you!
I posted a pic of them on facebook last night so she could see how I'm getting on now that I'm not there any more.
I haven't ventured into reading crochet patterns yet though- that is the next challenge after I have finished this blanket!

Just had to post. I have learnt a new sock heel. It's easier than a heel flap and fits lovely. Was so thrilled with it I danced around the room and then the dpn's fell out so I had to frog. Oh well I can do it again tonight. The pattern is fish lips kiss heel on Ravelry. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fish-lips-kiss-heel
its not free but only 1 dollar so around 65p.

I prefer a short row heel to a flap any day, both to knit and to wear. The eye of partridge heel in my latest pair gobbled up SO much yarn, I'm concerned my legs are going to be short -- Jitterbug is mean on yardage anyway. I might get around to knitting some tonight so we'll see!

ETA: sorry about your DPN trauma! This is why I magic loop my socks, two hands for two needles makes mishaps less likely which is what is needed when you're as clumsy as I am :rotfl:

Can I join in too please. I have just finished a pair of socks, after seeing all your lovely photos, they were done on 2 pins in stylecraft aviemore wool, and I have to say I am really pleased with them! Unfortunately I don't know how to post pictures or would let you see them :-) off to buy double ended pins today and try to do these type of sock, as I hate sewing up!

For anyone looking to crochet, I taught myself crochet from a great wee book called crochet unravelled, if you watch out you can get some copies for a penny plus postage on amazon. It was clear to understand and had good diagrams, it also had instruction for left handed working. I have done loads of pram blankets, and three large throws, which are so easy to do while watching tv once you have the knack!

Will see if I can post my pic.....
