Hope someone can help me.
My friend would like to knit a parrot, but we can only find Jason the Parrot and a couple on Pinterest, but the are not what she wants, something like the blue and green crochet one that can be found on line.
Thank you.

These two books both have patterns for parrots. If you don't want to buy a whole book just for one pattern, try asking your local library.0 -
The sweater is darling, OrkneyStar, lovely colour combinations and my ears feel toasty just looking at the headband
Still plodding with my sock. It's feeling a wee bit tight to get on but once it's in place, it's a smashing fit. I'll keep the leg relatively short to make it easier to wrestle on and off I think.0 -
Just wondering if anyone can give me some info on machine knitting and any limitations.
I currently knit dog sweaters to raise money for an animal charity, but I'm not able to produce the quantities I need. I'm considering buying a 2nd hand knitting machine to increase productivity, but don't know if it will do what I need it to. The basic sweaters are similar to a raglan sleeve, but have a garter stitch border. Would it be possible to make something like this with a knitting machine and if so, what features should I be looking for?
TIA,
M x0 -

if you pop onto the knit a square thread there are a couple of people on there who use knitting machines for their charity knitting and im sure they will advise you if no one here can help.

I can't help with knitting machines I'm afraid, my mum had one when I was wee and all I can remember was it made her swear, a lot
One sock done! Pattern is Ampersand Upside Down and I finished the leg off with just over an inch of 1x1 twisted rib, just cause I like it
I used Jeny's surprisingly stretchy bind off and I love the finish it gives
I'll cast on the second one tonight, I've got a horrible feeling that DH wants to watch American football *yawn*0 -
Thank you so much, OH and I have 'chunky' legs, he suffers with venous ulcers and his legs can vary tremendously in size from fluid retention, so I was going to make him some diabetic socks, this looks like an ideal bind off for those. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

I use a knitting machine & it knits stocking stitch only. The ribs l knit by hand.I have a brother that knits 3ply/4ply & a bond that knits with DK. I have never got on with the bond as it doesn't have a tension mask. Got my machines from the bootfair, charity shop & private sale from an ad.0

Thank you for the replies mrs-moneypenny and outtawork. I've been thinking and if it only does stocking stitch, it's not a disaster - I can always cast on an edging after the main body is knitted and do the ribbed collar by hand too. Tension mask?? I've obviously got a lot to learn!
I'll do as suggested and ask on knit your square too
FizzWhizz if it made me sweat a lot I'd be more put off than it making me swear a lot :rotfl:

OrkneyStar: Luuuurve the head band! It is beautifully knitted, very pretty colours and looks SOOO cosy. Shame they don't suit me.
I'm planning to have a 'proper' go at stranded knitting - I have tried in the distant past (pre-YouTube!)... and puckered. :eek:Have picked up tips for success and will be doing a bit of stranding on a grandbaby cardigan sometime soon.
FizzWhizz: Fabbo sox! Love the colours. :A
mtbuxton: Thank for the Magic Loop advice. I have tried this technique, in the past, but my ancient circulars have stiff cables and distort the fabric. Now that I have got some Knit Pro interchangeables, I will get round to having another go. Can't see me knitting sox on anything other than DPNs though - I just love them! :rotfl:Needs, NOT wants!
