Dying to get going on some jumpers for my grandson, but waiting for up to date measurements from my daughter.
I have 4ply cotton, DK and chunky, so the challenge will be to find patterns I like. Since doing top down raglans, I don't fancy going back to sewing up
May try bottom up in the round.
I've converted a lot of knit flat patterns to knitting in the round. Basically, for the body, you cast on twice the number of stitches, join into a round, place markers where the seams would be and knit in the round up to the armholes, after which you knit flat.
For the sleeves, you can either do them individually in the round or two at a time using magic loop. (I can't explain how to do that but there are some brilliant instructions out there on blogs )"Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'
It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

I've finished the animal squares blanket for a friends daughter then got the bug for knitting again.
i've made 3 preemie bodywarmers (using Orkney's pattern), 2 preemie blankets, 3 hats and 1 burial gown so far.
Will make a few more things before I send them off. Still not sure which organisation to send them to. I've had a look at a couple of charities, but don't want my things being sent abroad. I'm sure they are very deserving etc, but would prefer to help local families at the moment.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -

Just had a look at Kemps online and see that they are just across the water from me. On streetview they look as if they sell children's clothes as well as wool. How big a selection of wool (especially cheap wool) do they have instore, and do they sell other craft/ habadashery things. I would have to make a special trip over there and don't want to bother if there is not much to browse at.

I haven't read through the whole thread as there's too many posts, but I might have a read through some later :-D.
At the minute I'm working on a crochet project to take a break from knitting but here's a photo of the knitting project I just finished:
The pictures a bit small but you can just about make out all the detail on it. It's the first throw from "The Art Of Knitting" magazine. I cancelled after getting the bits for the first throw, then regretted it so I resubscribed and am now working on the 1st throw again! I gave the first one to my mum as a gift and gave the magazines to my mother-in-law! (Waste of money I know but I want the 2nd throw!).
I also recently finished this:
It was my first attempt at a toy, and the face is not very good but I think with practice I may get better :-D
i too subscribed to the art of knitting but unfortunately didnt finish it. yours looks lovely i did buy all the books and do have all the still. i remember sitting down one day and working out how much it would cos to complete and was horrified. i justified it by saying that as a very basic self taught knitter besides this blanket i would be learning all new stitches and even corcohet. what stopped me continuing was when i had completed my first 9 squares and put them all together they came out all different sizes and so un did some and changed needle sizes etc and the whole thing became a nightmare so although i continued buying all the wool it was stashed a way. the last magazine then showed another blanket to start and the whole thing became a bit of a con as it was very expensive. having said this i was talking to someone recently who had finished hers by easing the squares to fit so may dust it off and finish it i also pulled out some nice patterns in there that i have started so i guess i am getting some more use of them through this again yours do look lovely. i have seen people selling the wool on ebay and maybe you could borrow back the magazines and the whole process would work out a lot cheaper hth0 -
as you may notice from the post above with its terrible spelling and grammer that i am still not well. my wound became infected and at the same time am having an episode which is what my gp calls it when my back flares up and is beyond the usual pain and even the morphine does not seem to touch the sides. but i so wanted to say a thank you to you all. my ds1 has just read out all the replies with help that has been offered over the last couple of months with advice on wool and hunting out patterns for me at some stages all you were short of was practically knitting the items for me my ds1 is typing this and am hoping he will print me out some of these patterns that sound exactly what i was lookinf for. thank you thank you i hope i will soon be on my feet again and clacking my needles0
