tooties, you are turning out finished projects at an alarming rate. Do you knit all night?

I loved Womans Weekly dolls patterns. They were why I learned to knit at an early age. I seemed to remember some were for twin dolls (boy and girl) and some were for a Rosebud doll you could actually order from WW. I have looked for old copies of WW for years so I could make these for my GD's dolls but have had no success at all.
I haven't seen any old copies, but years ago when my Gran died we found stacks and stacks and stacks of the old Womans Weekly with the pink top - you remember? For the dolls have you looked at any Jean Greenhow books? Might see some in charity shops etc and there are loads of knitted toys in them. Or you can try writing to WW - I think they have redone some stuff.
I am still grumbling over this little jacket (if grumbling were an olympic sport Britain would be guaranteed a medal) because the way knitting up the collar is described is a bit confusing (and I'm easily confused) but I think I am doing okay - I just have absolutely no idea how I am supposed to sew it together at the end!
Trouble is, being me, I've only ever knitted sweaters and stuff. I have some fluffy yarn stashed - I shall have to have a go at some scarves.
Mind you, I shall probably need something simple after knitting a gorgeous sweater - in two strands of dk on 8mm needles :eek::eek::eek:. I do cause problems for myself.Always another chapter0 -
Olliebeak - I think the object you are describing is the
K-Tel Knitter!!!!!!!!! I saw one at a jumble sale recently and I am sure my Mum had one, in fact I think I might have it here somewhere! It was supposed to enable you to knit and crochet in one and it came in a box with an instruction booklet. I'll ask my Mum tomorrow.
My mum had one of those as well! It was actually the Tunisian/Afghan knitter that I was thinking of in my earlier post. Like a knitting needle with a hook on - where you cast on stitches on one row and then cast them off again on the next one. Like this:

Frisco - I have no idea but good luck. Do you mean like a little hoodie or just a really deep collar? I think you are very brave.
Treated myself to a book on how to knit toilet roll covers and how to knit teacosies. It is a shameless indulgence, but knitting a toilet roll holder like a pig appeals to me so much. Trouble is that there is a lot of crochet and I don't know how to crochet. Sigh.Always another chapter0 -
thanks i'll need it! no a really deep collar more like a n old fashioned 50s cardi kinda like a shawl collar i'm just glad i did'nt have to knit the whole thing, son is 6ft 6in0

I could have got up and knitted instead of tossing and turning all night!
Having rediscovered the therapeutic nature of knitting, I'm getting excited and planning lots of future projects. Mostly overambitious, but you've got to aim high! Anyway, today I have braved the terrors of the loft. The first job was to put down some mouse bait and sweep up some of the evidence of occupation - yuk! Then I dragged out a box from the back (I've been in the house for 11 years and the box came from the previous house unopened). Once I'd wiped off the muck, I found a number of binders containing Treasure - long lost knitting patterns and more. I've just spent a couple of hours looking at what I found and remembering past projects. I used to get Womans Weekly too, but have only found toy patterns so far. I've got copies of a magazine called Fashioncraft from the early 80s - still some good patterns, but not sure whether to just save the best ones, or keep the magazines intact. I've just been on the de-cluttering thread and I know what I ought to do, but I don't have to of course! What do others do?
I finished my socks and they are lovely and cosy (nobody has to know that I didn't get the shaping quite right!) Now I'm well on with the patchwork wrap, doing about a square a day. Must find out how to post pictures!Landgirl0 -
tooties - you're magic. I'm a public knitter too and knit when I can't sleep at night and I knit while I am on here, with my lap-top perched on my knee. I should be stealing a march on you, but no, you race ahead of me at an incredible pace. Well done you.
landgirl - Welcome back to the world of knitting. Save ALL your patterns for a bit until you find out what you like doing best. Do you have a box of wool stored away in the loft, if so I should remove it pronto before the mousies make a nice cosy home in it.
Yes please, piccies as soon as you can.
