Just reading back on the thread, and spotted this:D You are the only other person I've ever *met* who crochets just like me!!! I used to get so fed up with being told I was doing it *wrong*.

No, there's at least three of us. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Does that mean we could form our own club? I haven't done much crochet for years, but did make my daughter a lovely dress and shoes when she was a baby. And I used to make dressing table sets.:o

Would have to have a hook and wool to determine how I crochet, but that sounds very familiar to me CM.

Ches... I had those Rosebud dolls! I remember that they cost my mother a fortune as at the time (early 50s I suppose) it was very difficult to get things sent from UK...all sorts of customs problems, even for two little dolls!

pcg2001...I think that your needlework is very nice too....bit like Sardinian pibbiones, although it is most usually all cream coloured and I think just knitted, although have never seen it done.

Must finish DD4's hat to-day and then get started on baby jackets, socks, hats...have two weeks to do the lot as DD2's baby is due on 5th Feb....just hope that she has enough blankets, have found two so maybe that will be enough to start with!

There was a craft that 'sort of got going in the early/mid 70's' that appeared to be a combination of the two - one of those darn 'K-tel' things, if I remember rightly! That consisted of a knitting needle with a hook on the end. It started off like a row of crochet, then you worked back along picking up every stitch to the other end of the row; then you worked back again taking each stitch off again. A bit like casting on and then casting off each row as you went. My mother had a go at it - but soon threw it away again. It was very difficult to do proper shaping for sleeves and necklines as everything appeared to be geared towards square shapes. May have been ok for dropped shoulders and slash necklines that became fashionable around that time!

Maybe this is what you remember from when you were younger  .

Oh I know those things as afghan hooks - I have used this technique to make blankie squares but it was pretty slow going

A friend of mine is having a baby in july and doesn't want to know what sex - I joked that it would end up in green and yellow but he has said that as a qpr fan (spit splutter) it is going to be in blue and white hoops whatever the gender - can you lovely wise ladies reccomend a close match in baby 4 ply to Queens Park Rangers blue

    TIA

If you are making outer garments then you don't really need to use special baby wool anyway - I'm assuming that these days most babies will have soft cotten vests etc under whatever you knit.
I can't work out from pictures if QPR is a sky blue or a royal blue, but I'm sure that any 4 ply would be fine, and after all, strong colours are very good for assisting in developing focus etc in babies.

Olliebeak - I think the object you are describing is the
K-Tel Knitter!!!!!!!!! I saw one at a jumble sale recently and I am sure my Mum had one, in fact I think I might have it here somewhere! It was supposed to enable you to knit and crochet in one and it came in a box with an instruction booklet. I'll ask my Mum tomorrow.
  • I'm taking a break from knitting scarves, I sold some books on Amazon for £40 so treated my self to a full set of crochet hooks, so I'll be crocheting squares in the evening for a while.
